I get a "free" policy with my RBS gold checking account. Seems quite good but, touch wood, never needed it.

Some of these 'free' travel insurance extras aren't worth shit, there's so many exclusions and clauses that it's worth reading through the fine print very carefully and maybe taking something else.

You'll find a lot of insurers won't cover you where FCO have advised against travel so if you're going South check if it's covered.

          From FCO:
We advise against all but essential travel to, or through, the far southern provinces of Pattani, Yala, Narathiwat and Songkhla, where there is continuing violence due to insurgency and civil unrest.
Also think about that motorcycle you are going to rent.
Are you covered? Are you covered after a couple of beers?
Are you covered if you fall out the back of a baht bus piss drunk?
Are you covered if some nasty freelancer takes your camera from loom?

These insurance people are tricky buggers, they'll happily take your £20 for World Wide Annual insurance then do whatever they can so as not to have to fork out £150,000 medical and repatriation costs

Does your insurance cover this highly unlikely event?

i paid about 200$ each for my last two 3 week trips it was IHI...and they were ok when i needed them.... the funny part was....i hadnt paid the extra luggage insurance...but when i arrived in CM...well thai airways had lost my suitcase...so i phoned them..and they told me in the phone...you can buy for about 6000 bath a day...we cover...so i did of course...every day for 4 days...
but when i sent the bill....the answer was no...i didnt have the extra insurance needed...BUT after just a few second when i told them what they have said to me in the phone from LOS...she chekked...and then the paid... so got refunded about 24k bath...

dont ask me who wrote the reciepes i sent them....but they was all in thai...

but needless to say....i stick with that company now...so guess they will earn that money back a lot of times...

                Hi Batman,
How did you go after your last trip, did they have conman cover?
Sorry to hear about the demise of Lita's, but you could give La Bamba a go, no connections now to our mutual friend.
For insurance I always rely on my Gold card, I have read through the policy (Zurich insurance) it doesn't seem to have any nasties, but of course you never know until you claim
