Request for help from the Aussies..

So i'm going to Sydney for the first time next month....will have a Fri & Sat night free. But with a catch. I will be with a business associate and doubt I will get a chance to break free to search for any LB action.

So in Sydney I'm looking for info on the GG scene. I have read some stuff about King's Cross area, massage places, etc.

But what I'm more interested is the "legitimate" nightlife. I'm late 30's my friend is about 50. Where can we go to have a good time, just drinking, etc, and where the potential exists to meet some "new friends".

We are not really looking to hang out with the 20 yr olds in clubs with techno/hip-hop type music. What is there for 30-50 yr olds? Maybe a general area with many bars to go bar-hopping? Or a specific club?

Would be especially interested in where the Asian girls hang out!! Thai, Indonesian,Korean , Filipinas, doesn't matter to us. Is there a "freelance" type place there? I'm sure it depends on the place/people - as to whether we would get asked to make a financial contribution to their general fund....haha.

Just as some background we are both fairly experienced in Asia - Bangkok, Jakarta, Singapore, HK, Manila, Seoul, Tokyo...we have been to all those places. But first time in AUS for both of us...

And if I do get a chance to break away...what about LB's? I found one post referencing the "Taxi Club"? Where is that? Any other places?

Also following on to Canberra for a week after Sydney. But doubt there will be much chance for fun there as we will be in meetings/tied up for most of the time.

Yes Kingscross is where most of the action would be..mainly strip clubs and working girls/freelancers on the main road. The Grosvenor Club/Taxi Club
40-42 Flinders Street, Darlinghurst is a must to meet  transexuals/ladyboys, best nights fri-sat nights.

Try Darling Harbour for a vibe somewhat similar to Singapore's Boat Quay.

King Street, Newtown for lots of high quality Thai restaurants.

Crown St, Surry Hills for some good pubs with trendy crowd - within 5 minutes of each other are The Clock Hotel, the White Horse, the Dolphin. All good places with attractive, mixed age crowd. (also only 2 blocks away from Taxi club).

Oxford St - lots of clubs, but a bit young and techno.

Chinatown - very busy on weekends, lots of outdoor seated restaurants, busy vibe, lots of Asian eye candy and 5 minutes from Darling Harbour.

Kings Cross - as described above.
