Spent time there also - if you're not a gambler its pretty limited but starting to get there. Stayed at The Venetian which was comfortable and spacious, poor attention to cleaning standards in my room though and the buffet breakfast can start to make you if you have it for more than two weeks! Overall Id recommend it though.
The casinos are huge (as are the new hotels going up on the Cotai Strip of which there will be 8 new ones under the LVSC I think, the Venetian being the first (Four Seasons next month) and don't expect Vegas in terms of atmosphere. The Chinese just dont do it in an excitable 'what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas' way - watching them bend the corners of their cards to try and influence the result with their minds is an education in itself!
Few clubs, D2 has been mentioned, also MP4 and Lion Bar are the most popular. The first two seem to kick off around 3am which was strange, closing very late mornings from what I could see. All are small venues. The larger operators are starting to sniff, with Hard Rock at City of Dreams (2009) probably a first contender, maybe Buddha Bar at The Venetian. Problem is the infrastructure hasnt caught up with the potential business - not enough hotel rooms for example, to cope with overnight trade. A larger operator opening now would have their work cut out.
Cirque de Soleil is a permanent instalation at The Venetian now, and the 15,000 seat arena has hosted some serious concerts such as The Police, but the trip home is a nightmare with not enough ferries for the volume...all being worked on now with 12 more ferries on order, and a night service in effect.
Given time, Macau will be a more well-rounded destination with something for all. Right now its a bit limited.
For the sex hunters out there, massage parlours galore and very obvious hookers in the casino, floor walking without interference. The only rule seems to be - to quote a manager - "they cant be ugly". "Or Russian". I have to admit the girls are pretty attractive, the ones I saw anyway. Apparently the Russian pimps have been a nightmare so they keep them out.
Some nice restaurants about with excellent standards - I'd recommend Aurora.
All in all, worth a weekend trip for something different.
