Travel tips to cebu

Does anyone have experience or recommendations on the best way to fly to Cebu from the US west coast? Is there a better day to fly, better airline over another? Or any little travel tips? I have a current passport. Does a Verizon cell phone work over there? Or does one purchase a throw-away for US people to contact you?

I am planning a trip the end of November, without any international travel experience, so any practical information would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm not familiar with the system you are using but by my experience all I can say that roaming service by any provider, when used outside your country, is always a bloodsucking event!
So, if you intend to use your mobile quite a bit for both local calls and receiving, it's not a bad idea to buy a SIM card in there with a local number.
Every average trip (about 5 days) I make with my cellphone it costs me always well over USD 100.00 in roaming calls
