Where do you plan to stay? Your rent will depend on location. I think you'll be able to find a place around that price range in Makati though. Google Makati apartments. Hope this helps.
(russ935 @ Mar. 29 2009,10:08) hey guys will i be safe if i go to zamoanga city
I've been there three times. Never had a problem there, just use your common sense. The center of the city is very noisy.
Don't go after dark to Rio Hondo ( a Muslim village on piles), it's very exotic, been there during the day "alone". You can eat excellent fish in Zamboanga, it has some good restaurants.
I even went to the island of Basilan known for it's kidnappings. The army is present and they control the vehicles entering Isabella(capital).
Many people from the Philippines have little knowledge about Mindanao because they haven't been there that's why they say to avoid that place.
We strongly advise you not to travel to Mindanao, including mainland Mindanao, the Zamboanga Peninsula and the Sulu Archipelago, due to the very high threat of terrorist attack, including kidnapping, and related counter-terrorism operations. Armed clashes between the Philippines Armed Forces and Moro Islamic Liberation Front are continuing after fighting broke out on 10 August 2008 in central Mindanao. Attacks have occurred throughout central Mindanao in November and early December 2008, against military and civilian targets. Further attacks cannot be ruled out. If you are in these areas, you should consider leaving.

Taken from the Aussie government travel warning Â
I wouldn't mind returning to Zamboanga tomorrow so to speak.
The island of Mindanao is very big, Sulu is far away.
There are problems in Mindanao, I also read the papers.
I never felt unsafe in Zamboanga center, it's well lit and if you have a compagnion there, I don't see the problem.
Unless you're a real pussy.
Travelling to Mindanao is all about being smart and not going places you shouldn't be going. Stay out of the province...don't travel at night...all common sense stuff. Some years ago an engineer from Mountain View was killed in Mindanao...in the province outside of General Santos City....he went to his online girlfriends house. Not very smart. I think the Australian government is especially careful....seems the Aussies are always getting into trouble in places like Bali and Indonesia.
I've personally written off following up on the girls from Zamboanga & Gen. Santos areas, too many unknowns & I'll stick out like a fly on rice. Mores the pity really because the tgs from Zamboanga are really noticeably hotter as a group than any other place in the PI - assuming that their photos aren't being doctored by the militants to lure western mongers there- not sure why that is, kinda curious. A high percentage of lookers tho in their pics.
Davao seems like a totally different situation on the other side, has a real "law & order" mayor that has apparently made it a good place to settle. It's on my short list, but the girls don't seem anything special.... a few Universities there though.
