      (allstar88 @ Nov. 12 2009,04:19) have a music festival?
      Good thinking Allstar!

Popular ways to raise the conciousness about an otherwise overlooked location are Music Festivals and Film Festivals

Why not have a short film festival there? Perhaps a short film festival where the movie has to be filmed on a Cell phone cam? That gives your average filipina a chance for a look in too.....

... option of last resort; open a Walking Street like Pattaya, you'll definitely be getting a horde of tourists then & the politicians & police will get their cut of the action too!

..u might add this comment; "if it's ok for a King, why not Caloocan!"  u can have a parade right down CWS (Caloocan Walking Street) to inaugarate the grand opening!

Aside from the Bonifacio Monument and the University, Caloocan City is a pretty quiet place. I suppose you could try to come up with something promoting the City as the "Gateway to North Luzon"...perhaps a large restaurant mall north of the tollbooth where travelers to the north on the highway could get some good food before their trip north. For certain, the emphasis should be on local tourism. Good luck.

              the main question is

what kind of tourist you wish to attract?
the fact is actually philippines is not for backpackers for many reasons( like airlines, visa regulation,no cheap guesthouse like in thailand, cambodia, bali or malasysia

WEll ,Thailand, malaysia, bali are able to attract middle class tourist and backpackers..philippines not...that s a pity.

If you want middle class tourist..you need to have hotel offering international standard of confort...and hygiene for food

              -Efficient tourist center, doing really their job and knowing the province,with map and other brochure on display;

-Comprehensive transportation service for tourist with connection to other places in the province( at least for going to visited tourist attraction).;the fact is in philippines cities if you re not filipino it s hard to get the jeepney simply because we understand nothing...also clean the taxi business..with penality for those not using meter.

              - polite, honest and helpfull cops, keeping the street city safe.

              stewart already has good idea
Promote something that is already there
              - Invest in something that would attract tourists

filipino has real talent for music....so why not doing something with a music festival...many" indie"artist in philippines have more talent than actual filipino star...it could be also nice to invite foreign artist to this festival.

another member asked about food..so why not a food festival, with food from all the philippines..and chief cooking competition...

              just my 2 cents advice

              good luck in your project

Simple - sounds like its a suburb with nothing really going for it. So you do what everyone else has done and call it an ART DISTRICT quickly followed by XXXXXX Village - i.e where the rebellious and creative people go so they are away from the 'suit' people. Think of Greenwich Village(New York), Holland Village (Singapore), Islington (London) etc etc - they had nothing going for them either. Suddenly these old dumps become trendy by supporting minority views and allowing people to express themselves without intimidation or fear. Trust me this will be a serious vote winner and do a Pic in the background of some artists and such life. Always works a treat for every other place that was a suburb and had nothing going for it.

                Cheers
