Erasing Dowloaded Pictures

Greetings

I am sure everyone in this forum enjoys looking and dowloading pictures of the stunning girls on show in this site. I think Stoogie does a great job in finding and publishing pictures of these nyphms !!

My question is though, how can you browse through your computers's hard disk to see what threads and pictures are stored on your harddrive ? After I find these stored pictures how can I safely remove them from my machine

Why the need to do this you ask ?? I want to take my PC in for a service and upgrade and I'd rather not have those indolent technies prying through my pics

This will take care of anything left behind on your hard drive.

The procedures depends on whether or not you have actually downloaded the photos and links to your hard drive or simply viewed everything in your browser window.

If you have not downloaded anything to your hard drive, you need to empty the "cache" in your brower. This is a place your browser temporarily stores link, images, etc. while you are browing. To empty the brower in IE, go to "Tools" then "Internet Options...". That will open another box. The "General" page is what you want and look for "Temporary Internet Files". Click on the box "Delete Files...". This will delete all the files in your cache. You will also need to clear the history, which is under the "Delete Files..." box.

You should also clear any bookmarks, but be sure you write them down so you can restore it when you get your system back.

If you have actually downloaded photos to your system, you need to locate the place where they are stored. Simply do a search, with the wildcard "*.jpg" This will bring up all the photos and you can delete those from ATS.

One other option if you have Windows XP Pro is to encrypt the folder where you have the downloaded folders stored. That would prevent anyone else who did not have your windows password to access the files. There are also programs you can download that will encrypt folders as well. Another inexpensive option is to rename the extension of the files from *.jpg to another file, so they cannot be opened as photos. When you get the system back you can rename then again and view the photos.

I think there could be a lot of other suggestions. If you do delete the files, make sure you empty the trash bin.

That's fine for a cursory inspection of your harddrive. However the normal 'delete' function just removes the relevant entry into the filesystem table, leaving the actual image data on your drive. If you want to properly remove data from your harddrive then you need to wipe all the unused portions with zeros or random numbers.
These days IT forensic teams can even recover data from formatted hard drives since some of the magnetic effects from the stored data 'migrates' away from the tracks.

If you want to erase all data then you need to download one of the tools that will continuously write random data to the deleted areas of your disc, or alternatively, smash the crap out of the drive if you don't intend using it again. Never donate a pc to anyone if it previously held important imformation on the hard drive.

That is good advice if you are selling or giving away your computer. The original poster said he was sending it in for service and an upgrade.

If he is really concerned about others getting access to the data he could upgrade the system on his own, depending on what is involved.

The options mentioned in my post would likely do for a regular service and upgrade, where they hopefully are not "snooping" in your computer and have the kind of data recovery tools law enforcement or government use.

Besides it may be a company supplied one.   If that's the case he won't be allowed to alter it himself anyway - or have pornographic pictures on it
