(tommy1983 @ Jan. 06 2008,17:30) I tried all of the above without joy, except for editing the registry.

Dont know enough about computers to try that.
If it is Apple Quicktime affecting your system then I'm wondering if an Uninstall might be in order, then try uninstalling and reinstalling your DVD drive.

The only snag might be that Apple might leave some registry entries on your system, but what have you got to lose?

Apple keep trying to get me to update Quicktime and add iTunes, but I don't want crappy iTunes on my system, I don't really need Quicktime I think, can't remember the last time I used it.

    I've made kathylc

Ok, one thing you can try is this: use system restore to restore your computer to a point in time your optical drive was working (1st week in Dec.). You will not lose any data, but if you have installed any programs or updates after that date, those will be lost. Also If Apple Quicktime has been causing this problem, do not accept any further updates.

Right, windows is telling me the problem is there is no software to run this device, not sure how, cause it was working when I got it.

And says I should go to the manufacturers website, but the manufacturer is stantard CD-ROM drives which hasn't got a website.

I think am just going to have to send it back.

Best way Tommy and tell them to replace it with a "NEW" one if you have "warranty" for it and a lot less "hassle"

I waited for an engineer to come out for days and then he came to pick up a "laptop" (when I've a desktop) and to take it "away" for repair

Like I say , I just took mine back to the shop and they replaced it with a new one within seconds

          Best of luck

Hi Tommy, my advice is to get help from the pros that will take you through the problem step by step. You can forget those crappy Microsoft Help sites. The best forum I know with fast, professional response is: http://www.techsupportforum.com/ Its free and like I say its very professional and absolutely free. The moderators are computer technicians and 24 hours online. Im sure they can help you. Good luck

I have problems in watching videos. I just saw this thread now and thought to tack on.
The Windows media players only shows me those psychadelic images, whatever the names are..and don't show me video images. Audio is there but not images..
Never liked WIndoes media players but dunno how to set/chenge/remove it and maybe use another..RealPlayer/other? ANy suggestions for a uncompetent computer user?

Looker you need a media player AND media decoders (since video files can be encoded 1000 different ways)

get VLC and get k-lite, http://www.free-codecs.com/download/...Codec_Pack.htm

No, even with pressing on F2, or any other of the Fssss doesn't work
Cannot operate any control unless go back using the lappie keyboard. Strange.
I'm sure it' a problem of setting but who know..
