As I said in my opening post, this camera is primarily for professional use, and I need some nice pix.

The battery just finished loading and did first snaps.

    WOW.

    I think I won't regret buying the 550D.

Grats, sounds like a great camera choice.

Btw my post sounds out of context since I had typed up a reply but went afk so you already posted what you bought and I still advised you on models. I was more curious about what you wanted primarily snaps or the 1080p output video but you answered that.

P.S. How many snaps does it take with rapid shot? 9 with 1 click?

Maybe I sound insensitive but its not the case at all. I do care!  But if I had to live my whole life based on how everyone might be sensitive to me.. I would not be living my life as I want it. So you can accept me and my flaws as I am or you can't.

          So far, I like it!
Low light performance is really good!

The casing doesn't feel that cheap at all.

About the speed, it takes about 4 pics a second and I took a series of 20 pics until I released my finger, it just doesn't stop, and that was in "large" mode (=18MP in JPG).
This may be due to the Sandisk Ultra III extreme SD card.

My first pic was a portrait of my wife from 3 meters away, the result was crisp sharp and every skin imperfection was visible, she didn't like it and left quickly for the bathroom mirror and her make-up set.
          LOL

I have been very happy with the G9.
My friend Karl from Ezy uses a G10 or G11 to shoot for his thread, seems to doing OK.

Manarak, that was a quick purchase, but certainly a good camera. I would have suggested you also take a look at the Sony Alpha A500/550 DSLRs. Reviews of the photo quality are good, a bit less expensive than the Canon/Nikon equivalents. In body anti-shake stablization gives stabilization to every lens you attach. Carl Zeiss autofocus lens are some of the best available for DSLR, and if you don't want to spend that much cash, the Sony and legacy Minolta lens are good as well.

Same same me, except Manarak could have got a great price on a Sony A850 full frame. and matched it with a Zeiss 16-35mm f/2.8 on Fullframe! That's a professional Camera and lens!

As the decision has been made here's a review of your new camera.

Ahhh, nobody mentioned the full-frame bargain of the decade - Sony's A850, especially now as it's price has been dropped.

This thing has a ton of performance & given the price of its competition, it really is cheap by comparison.

However it is a large heavy camera. It has no video or built-in flash, two desirable but not essential features.

My biggest concern is that being full frame, there isn't the cropping advantage from using lighter, smaller lenses.

e.g. a small, light zoom of 18 to 55mm on an APS sensor gives the equivalent focal lengths of 27 to 83mm.

On the A850, to get 27 to 83 mm focal length, it would require a bigger, more expensive lens.

Compared to a Canon 550D, the weight that would be needed to carry around would be double & compared to the Pentax K-x, the weight would be more than double. Maybe 3 times the weight of equipment.

These considerations become very important once you have lugged heavy camera gear around for a few days (or months!!).
Despite the high cost of living, it continues to be popular.

I've never played with the Sony, but I have heard people say that at the of things..it just doesn't take pictures as good as a Canon or Nikon.

Those that say that CLEARLY have never used the SONY gear. Take the word of the very experienced long time pro photographer & publisher David Kilpatrick who also uses Nikon & Canon . None of this matters to Manarak who will take some great pictures on his new camera.

(manarak @ Apr. 24 2010,20:28) yes, I generally like Canon.

The EOS 7D looks like the best choice, it is pricey though.
                            1800 USD for a 18-135 kit.

Or maybe the EOS 550D ?
                            1000 USD for a 18-135 kit
I have the 7D, yes its expensive but a nice camera to hold, beautifully built, 100% viewfinder is fantastic, superb focus system but a high pixel density you will need primes or a good quality zoom.

I have the 24-105L and a few primes plus a 10-22 for wide angle. The 550 has the same sensor as the 7d but a smaller camera.

                              A few snaps later...
Point & shoot works great with this cam, and very fast too (without live view of course).
Still 100% satisfied, the cam will do the job I need it for.

As I am not a hard core photo enthousiast, I don't think I'll ever need another lens than the 18-135.
If I ever become one, I'll go for the better model in future.

                              A850:
                              Pacman summed it up nicely:
However it is a large heavy camera. It has no video or built-in flash, two desirable but not essential features.
A built-in flash is in my opinion a necessary feature, just to be a bit flexible.
And the vid feature is quite important too, if I'm touring the country I won't bring a photo camera and a camcorder at the same time. It will either be just the photo cam or the camcorder + the ultracompact photo cam. So the vid is a great feature, especially as the resulting vid is of good quality according to reviews.

Im very happy with the cam... only problem now is im addicted and want
to get the L seriers lenses

18-135 is great, and I don't think I'll ever need something else. I'm not into swapping lenses or spending big $$ on them if the cam does the job without :-)

Now... if they could just build the 550D in a size fitting in a pant's pocket...
