Usage of the Search Function

it's definately a helpful function and great if people do know to use it. i reckon the button could be made more prominent with a caption explaining it. tho it doesnt bother me much when someone asks a question that may have been answered as information changes and some info from search may be out of date.
also i feel that in the time someone took to write "hey dickhead use the goddamn search first you sonofabitch!!" they could have probably doled out some update on what he is seeking.

The first thing I do after an couple of hours away from the forum is to delete almost all new posts started by new members.

After that I re-title all the new threads so they are appropriate and readable.

Then I move a few threads (like this one) where they should be.

Then I dump all the members who haven't logged on in a while.

There are 5 people on my "Ignore" list because they write every fucking day and have yet to write anything I want to read.

But I then look for all threads written by people I do like and threads that I am interested in.

If people can't be arsed to use the search features (there are TWO) then I can live without them.

It's the same crap every time...

1 - Where is Nancy/Mint/'insert name here'?
2 - Where is the daytime action?
3 - Can I get a massage?
4 - Sorry I'm new so that gives me a reasonable excuse to be lazy also! Please post pictures of this girl who I don't want to pay to see!
5 - How do you post pictures?
6 - Where is my mummy?

Fuck the lot of them. There are other forums for them to annoy.

I use it a lot lately, and also forget it a lot...
Example: I searched yesterday for "Haven Hotel". I got all posts where by instance a poster say "I haven't..". 10 pages with threads. Ouch.
But I am afraid it is a very common issue with forum boards as it can be a build in function a webmaster can not modify.
Except if I did not see it and it exists, an advanced search would be nice with option such as
- entire word
- all words
- from (date) to (date). Option [last month], then [last year] does not have a medium option.
- from a list of specific users

It is possible that it uses already some symbols  (ex.: keywords "haven+Hotel") for having all words included. I tried, but did not see a noticeable difference.

Now, how many are using the search function? Not many I think. The question is with the moderators/admin who have to clean the mess every day (includes mine): is it worth the time to refine the already existing search engine?

My complaint is the default settings. You have to study them or your searches are meaningless. If you just enter your keywords and hit 'Search' (like I do on Google all day long) you get no results because it doesn't search any of the forums. If you select 'All Open Forums' (the logical default), you still probably won't get anything because the  time default is "this month or newer".

Why not just default to 'All Open Forums' and 'since the beginning'? Then people can narrow it if they want to.

Just a thought
