Hi everyone, Hope im in the right place for this. Anyway can anyone tell me where I can get an external hard drive repaired in the Sukhumvit area. I need to get the printed circuit board replaced. I only know of the IT mall in rangsit ( zeers ). This hard drive is packed full of ladyboy videos and holiday snaps that Ive collected over a long time so I need a store that isnt too curious. Theres nothing illegal on it, just personal. Would appreciate any advice. Rgds

I think you are in trouble, its really hard to fix a modern hard disk, usually they just replace it.
Panthip has the most repair shops, they are towards the back, or on the top floors. If you don't speak Thai, you might need to bring someone along who does."Snick, You Sperm Too Much" - Anon

Thanks for the tip Snick. Ive looked that mall up on the net under http://www.bangkok.com/shopping-mall and its even bigger than Rangsit. Im hoping that my problem is just the printed circuit board but if not Im sure I will find a data recovery specialist in that huge mall. By the way if you or any members here need any advice on computer problems then maybe this link will be of interest http://www.techsupportforum.com/ it really is free and the professional response is fast and helpful. Lots of free downloads to diagnose your hardware etc. Rgds

Panthip is the biggest IT mall in Thailand (or anywhere else I've ever been) - surprised you have not heard of it.
Maxtor and Seagate have repair offices there, but they really don't repair anything they just test if its defective and replace it with a refurbished drive. You will have to to try one of the smaller repair shops, one possibility is finding the same model drive and swapping boards --- but I have never tried this and have no idea if it would really work.
Does the drive work at all ?, or is it completely unrecognized by the computer ?"Snick, You Sperm Too Much" - Anon

Panthip is an ok place but I actually prefer Fortune Town on 7/1 Ratchadapisek Road. It's more relaxed and not as much hustle and bustle as in Panthip.
I will usually get a much better deal when I buy my stuff in FT as the place caters to more locals. They also have a couple of service places.
Quite convenient to get to from Sukhumvit.. just take the Subway ..

Thanks Todd. I will visit both if I can drag myself out of the bed earlier enough.
In answer to your question Snick, the drive is dead....no vibrations or even noise. Ive tried a new enclosure but no luck and it has its own power supply. Main thing is I dont lose the data but recovery specialists here in Europe are mega expensive...nosey too lol. So I thought I would take it with me to Los and the Phils later this month.

The guys at Panthip are very good, I did the same thing with a busted laptop. would have cost $300+ to fix in the states, they fixed it in Panthip for 1000 Baht.
Go to Panthip for repairs, Fortune is great and is where I do all my shopping, but they do not have the repair shops like Panthip has.
The repair guys in Thailand will be nosey too -- there was an incident 2 years ago where a famous Thai pop star brought in his laptop for repairs and the technicians lifted all his private sex videos and then started selling 'em."Snick, You Sperm Too Much" - Anon

I agree the best computer repair shops are in Pantip Plaza. By the way, it probably won't be worth repairing your external case (if that is the problem) - it will be easy for the shop to diagnose. They will pop a different drive into the external case and if it works - you hard drive is the problem, not the case. If the case is the problem a new one doesn't cost that much - and may be cheaper than trying to repair it.
ahh - sorry I see you have already tried a different external case - then your drive is the problem!
Data recovery is specialized, so I am not sure if many shops do that in Pantip Plaza, but they can tell you where to have it done.
Good luck!
