Don't forget to add a few days either end of the 'official' Songkran holidays (especially in Pattaya.)

This time of year is great fun if you are young, don't own anything of value and enjoy being ill.

I actually experienced my first Songkran this year and for the first 2 days had a blast on Khao San Rd squirting cute girls and lb's with those massive water guns you can buy. It was good initially as because of where we were you expected to get soaked and have powder rub all over your face and clothes so came prepared.

The part that annoyed me was when you had gotten back to the hotel after the days activities and cleaned up only to walk out of your hotel and be saturated by some idiot passers by in the back of a pick up.

My point being if it was restricted to certain areas then it would be loads of fun (I know impossible) but since it happens almost everywhere there is not respite and no escaping it

I have experienced 3 Songkrans, and yes at first great fun, even the second time was ok coz I was respecting the thais new years celebrations but the third experience I had enough.

I spent 3 days in BKK getting pissed wet through only to head down to Pattaya to suffer a further 4 Days of a drenching

As Ozzie said I did not mind it during the day, but going out at night in clean clobber and lasting minutes before getting whitewashed and wet through pissed me off

The Songkran has to experienced at least once though in my opinion, but I doubt I will be doing it myself again

That's why we are going in May and not April.

Songkran can be a real pain in the butt, mind you so can "S" when she's drilling you.
