well, I decided to start out in Pattaya and staying at PBR. My trip isn't untill Dec 4. When it gets closer I'll hit the calendar see who will be there and who may be able to point me in the right direction.
Until then I'll keep reading the forum and if i can't find the answer to a question useing the "search" tool, I'll ask it.
      Thanks

[/QUOTE]Judging by your interest in the 'Femboys' thread I suggest you go to Pattaya, navigate your way to Sunee Plaza and wait for a delicious femboy to stroll by.
I took Stogies suggestion and i'll stay in pattaya

if my last post was somewhat confussing I ment to quote "stogie" saying I took his advice

Then to quote "donnnnnny" trying to say "I'm keeping my options open"

sorry if i looked like an idiot, I haven't figure the quote thing out yet, i kind of suck at this online thing.
              Thanks

(Torurot @ Aug. 19 2009,13:09) Phuket,  Patong town, Bangla Rd.   Patong has more of the small village feel, and is reasonably compact.
agreed 100% ...... or even Kata and Karon down the road about 6 miles

Skip Pattaya until your 2nd visit if you really like Patong; it's like Patong on steroids

Bangkok is a big city so you may not like that, but if you are just ladyboy-hunting you can't beat it...... as road runner says, all you need is Nana Plaza; get a room nearby and have a ball. But no beaches; if you are going between Nov and April, choose Patong, which is on Phuket Island.

Just curious, about how many beer bars are there in Kata and Karon?

well, I was last there in 2006 and it was maybe 20 in each place? Surely more by now and each town has its share of talent.

Karon has a little town centre which has some action, you can surely get laid there and a lot of LB's prefer it down there because there is less competition than Patong.  Kata also has a small town area, very homey-feeling and no hassle/ hustle.  Of course by staying anywhere on Phuket you also get the benefit of 40 miles of west-facing, gorgeous beaches, something not available in BKK or Pattaya or even Samui.

My buddy Mickey used to swear by Kata and Karon, and he lived in Patong!  But he would cruise over the mountain a few times a week to get away from the hustle of Patong, and preferred it down there;  it's also much cheaper.

Myself, I won't go back to Patong anytime soon, it reminded me way too much of Pattaya on my last visit now that soi bangla has been closed off to cars. But I still love Phuket in general [see; 40 miles of sunset beaches!] and for this new guy I'd suggest he start there, it's a great introduction to the wonders of Thailand.

Both Kata & Karon have a very friendly feel about them, and the girls and LB's "seem" to be less in hustle mode. Lot's of small bars. There appears to be a lot of family/couples out because of the nearby resort hotels and as JaiDee mentions lovely beaches.

You can fly directly to Phuket from Pattaya. Bangkok Air is one company that does.

The guys are steering you right with good advice, be glad you found the forum .....(otoh maybe you never wanted to go to TH until you found the forum...hmm.....)

I'm born, raised & currently working & living in New York City (with a 20 year gap that I lived in other places, like Ohio) & on my first visit Bangkok completely overwhelmed me in a way I didn't expect: the noise, pollution, odors, endless traffic with millions of cars & scooters flooding 4-8 lane roads... urban highways really, that I was apparently supposed to cross over to get to a sidewalk that suddenly ended... and the HEAT! The everpresent heat & humidity....... The signs that looked like chicken scratch & the indecipherable language & the huge buildings dwarfing you on the streets & the obviously dirt poor beggars & street kids & people with no legs crawling face down on filthy sidewalks with a battered beggars cup in front of them.....

Really I should get a job with the tourism bureau.

But just be prepared for being out of your comfort zone at first.

I avoided BKK on my next 2-3 trips until I realized that I was missing out on one of the world's most interesting cities & the way to handle it is the same as NYC..... claim a neighborhood that fits you & use that as your "town", your home base, most of us settle somewhere around Sukhumvit. I would recommend for you not on Suk itself, but a ways down a side soi so you can breathe & walk a bit. Now I always stop in Bangkok & add 1 other destination.

Why? The women, the LBs, the food & shopping are spectacular & the economics & people are friendly. Plus expect the unexpected everyday. Most of the negs that I described in the 1st paragraph are actually like a drug that alters my consciousness a bit & heightens my awareness of the everyday, it's like a mild form of adrenaline & lsd
I actually enjoy the dislocation now & escape to a friendly air con pub when it threatens to overwhelm me.

I too was going to recommend Pattaya, PBR is a good place too, a walk from the noise. But I don't know much about Phuket, certainly fine beaches coming from Ohio in December.

                              Welcome aboard the crazy train!

(El_hefe @ Sep. 20 2009,00:54) be glad you found the forum
yes, he and about 1000 other people should be lucky they have found this place; since 2001 we have been steering people to the proper places to go, how to save money and avoid pitfalls, not get scammed and to not fall in love, etc......some take the advice and some don't but the bottom line is that if a new guy reads here for a while and trolls the archives he will get ALL the info he needs to have a great time.

Flying from Pattaya is a small ex-air force base called U Tapao; only a handful of flights leave here per day and it's not really in Pattaya, it's a good 45 mins south, same as BKK airport is about 75 minutes north. Flying to Phuket, me thinks you are better off going up to Suvarnabhumi because you can get better deals on flights and if at all possible avoid Bangkok airways, the mafia of all Thai airlines.

Based on your first post I'd bet you would not like Pattaya, it's kind of like a sheep being thrown into the wolves den for a first-timer. You WILL be back in Thailand, guaranteed, so my suggestion would be just go down there on your next trip; for now just stay in BKK near Nana Plaza while you get over jet lag for a few days, then fly down to Phuket for a week or so. It really is a lovely place in soooooo many ways, whereas Pattaya is only good for sex; the beaches blow. You will like it there I am sure, then save 2-3 days in BKK before you fly back home. Enjoy!
