Last time in LOS I lost 4-5 days of fun due to throat infection. The same has happened now. This time around it's not a crisis, as I'm here on an extended stay. But it still sucks. If it happens again I might have to remove my tonsils. What doesn't one do to suck a little lb cock, huh?

Anyone else experienced any similar problems?

From your previous posts it sounds like you are fairly young and fit. Infections can come about because the immune system may become lowered. Do you drink a lot of alcohol and sleep less during your LOS visits? That might be contributory.

Also be aware that too many "freebies" can lower the immune system as well.

I try to keep the alcohol consumption down, but that doesn't always happen. But I've actually only been drunk at one occation this time around. Didn't sleep too much the nights prior to the incident. I'm not shure why. Maybe because of 2nd hand ice smoking, if something like that can happen.

And the air con did act up a bit. Had set it at over 25C, but usually it was full throttle or nothing. Starting at nothing, then speeding up after a while. So yeah, it was absolutely freezing when I woke up feeling ill.

I used to get very bad sore throats every time I visited LOS - I always assumed due to air-con. Of course, it could also be from licking dirty asses

Now that I'm here long-term, I don't suffer at all

Indeed, after a while you become immune to most of the bacteria hiding in the crevices.
And there is not much that over the counter medicines in Thailand can't cure.

Stemming from a several generations Dutch Indonesian colonial family with many great grand uncles being doctors I have a tendency to self medicate a lot.

However with the advent of antibiotics I would take these a bit too often, which in many cases would just aggrevate the situation.
Nowadays I use more of the herbal and the less aggresive traditional medicines.

Yes it is a real fucker - on several occasions over the past 6 or so years I have developed some type of cold / throat infection whilst on holiday in LOS. It goes without saying that this puts a real dampener on the trip.

I am fairly fit, I rarely get sick and the immune system is as good as gold. But it is the penalty for playing tongue hockey and the reason is no real mystery.

Recently I have tried to have both of us use mouth wash before getting into it but it doesn't often happen for obvious reasons.

And , lets not beat around the bush , 11 hours in a pressurized tin can a mile up with all those nasty germs floating across the plane from the great unwashed in  economy class . No wonder. They should put that lot through a sheep dip before boarding.

As someone who does not gamble I would happily put money on it being caused by the airconditioning.

I once saw a 27 year old system on a ship cleaned out using a specialised ultrasonic cleaner.
What came out can only be described as indescribable!

Everyone used to have airconditioning colds before it was cleaned out.
For the first 3-4 weeks after we had worse airconditioning colds.

After that you could describe it as a breath of fresh air!

Yes, RR is right, that is a strong possibility. If your hotel room has one of the in room units like this:



Open up the front panel and check the filters. If they are dirty it is an easy process to remove them and clean them in the shower or tub. I do this regularly for any LOS hotel room I check into. While I haven't had the sore throat, flu symptoms, I have found that my nose is less stuffy during the night.
