(Stewart @ Dec. 04 2010,02:01) I think the next one will be in Antarctica, in heated stadiums.
Someone suggested on the radio this morning that Qatar is bidding for the Winter Olympics.

What gets me is if it was always FIFA's intention to award this to somewhere other than Western Europe why didn't they say so in the first place.
Or would this have meant that they got less brown envelopes?

You might be onto something there - Just had this press release come onto my desk.

From: The International organisation of protecting animals that make you go 'ahhhh - so cute'

Issued from: Executive Offices, damn expensive and extravagently furnished offices, Park Lane, London

Our latest findings after many years of research by our dedicated team of over 300 scientists, animalogists, behavioural experts and various hangers on, have concluded beyond a shadow of doubt that the Penguins of the antartic are suffering from a form of Paranoia. Our research has concluded that this behaviour has come about due to the mental stress being endured by the penguins who have noticed that nobody comes to visit them and when they do - they get eaten.

After conducting over 200 individual cruise ship visits by our team of experts, we have concluded therefore that Penguins are to be classified as a group, under UN definition of being 'suppressed'. Therefore we will automatically be releasing $1,200,000,000,000, of tax payers money to fund a new campaign to improve their quality of life and eliminate such blatent discrimination. We have already secured support from the UK, Japan and Barbados to allow Penguin refugees the right of abode in those countries. Due to the logistic issues, we will need to build a new airport and for speed (due to the urgency), we have contracted without bidding, Haliburton to undertake building a runway at a very good 'value for money price'. Haliburton had this to say:-

We are very pleased to be supporting this initiative into the last area where we know oil exists and that this worthy NGO will be funding most of the infrastructure costs. Our commitment to the penguins is TOTAL.

As part of this campaign to eliminate suppression of the Penguins - talks are at an advanced stage to hold the 2026 world Cup in Antartica. Haliburton have also kindly agreed to use their expertise to design and build stadiums on our behalf. In a further press release haliburton quoted:-

"We believe that our cutting edge design of football stadium will be perfectly suitable for this area - the design style we are following will resemble copies of the Eifell Tower and the Pompidou Centre in Paris, Famous for being constructed with huge pipe work. As part of the co-ordinated solution - this pipe work will run under the sea and connect to the startegically important 'hub' of Galveston in Texas where we already have a field that the penguins can live in, under the shadows of the worlds largest refinery so security is not an issue in protecting this suppressed group of cute and cuddly animals. who as everyone knows cannot fly and thus we need to build a pipe to transport the animals to Galveston "

Evaluations are currently underway by the NGO's as to what purpose the stadium can be used for after the world cup is hosted. Halliburton have kindly offered to take them off our hands for a small financial consideration and thus the NGO has agreed to pay halliburton a further $200,000,000,000 to ensure that the area is returned to normality in 2910.

      End of Press release.

At the press conference, a loan journalist from the Screws of the World, asked "why do these artist impressions of the stadiums look like Oil drillling structures?" The reply from the assembled team of PR experts was that indeed it could be deduced that they look similar, although nobody had noticed that before, but its purely a coincidence.........
