  • Have you ever reached a point when you...

Case in point.. I started following a baseball team (The New York Yankees) in 1993. They were at the bottom of the division.. they built a team from within and soon from 1996-2000 won 4 out of 5 championships. 2001 was another good year but the way it ended, it still leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.

2002 the team did a bit of house cleaning and let go of some of my favorite players. Still I stuck with them. 2009 they won another championship after a 9 year drought but afterwards another house cleaning getting rid of some players that just deserve to retire with their whole career in 1 uniform. Not only that but prices have skyrocketed and they just don't get it.

Have you ever had a gripe like mine with your club and stopped being a fan?

I think the closest someone comes to what I'm describing is The Los Angeles Dodgers trading Mike Piazza in his prime when there was no reason to.

Maybe I sound insensitive but its not the case at all. I do care!  But if I had to live my whole life based on how everyone might be sensitive to me.. I would not be living my life as I want it. So you can accept me and my flaws as I am or you can't.

Nah, I don't get bitter about specific moves that a team makes.

But if the team sucks for a long period I'll lose interest and get interested again when they get better,

With the Yanks was a fan during the Mantle/Maris years.

Once again in the Billy Martin Reggie Jax years.

And once again in the Torre Jeter years.

I've had a few moments of frustration and anger over the years following The New Orleans Saints but I was always a big BIG fan!

There was no question of me not supporting them.

Last season was worth all the years of suffering!

I started supporting Manchester United aged 6 back in 1967 when my Dad took me to Old Trarrord for the first time for a "Home" fixture against Ipswich which we lost 1-2

Forget the "Glory" Decades since the Premiership League began when we have been very successful, I have supported my Team ( i.e Attending) "Home" and "Away since the early 70's when we were kinda "shit"

        United till I die

Its not what I meant Dave. I mean I can deal with the coming close or not dominating as long as there is heart and you have to believe. The not winning isn't what is alienating me. Its management making serious blunders and kicking away players that deserve to stay in the uniform forever.

I actually saw a video of Bobby Charlton growing up and really admired him, although I didn't know he was a United player till recently.

The parallel of what I'm trying to get at would be something like United trading away (excuse me transferring away) Rooney. Would you still be a United  supporter (I think you would) but would you be miffed just a little?

For me, it was the bullshit shenanigans of the thugs in the NBA that turned me off - I used to be a pretty solid supporter of the Seattle Supersonics. Then after a few years of knocking at the door, taking Jordan and The Bulls to 5 or 6 games in the Championship Series, the fuckwad Shawn Kemp decides that he's being "disrespected" by the team because they want him to play under the 1 year old contract they'd signed with him, and he holds out. Eventual result of his bullshit was that we got a fat drunk in a trade that we had to pay something like $15 million a year for who was a complete washout, and Gary (The Glove) Payton had no one left on the team to help him.

That bullshit ghetto 'tude is what turned me off being an NBA fan, and not the bullshit the team owners and league pull on a regular basis.

Yeah I remember that, it had me scratching my head and I don't think the sonics have ever recovered. Vin Baker to the sonics, Kemp the Cavs, what were they thinking? I don't think it worked out for anyone except maybe the Jazz.

                              Props to Dave,

Yes he supports the same team as me (though i was born and bred an Ajax fan i been loyally defending the reds against the insistance annoying proddying of my arsenal minded friends/roommates and girlfriends) this i mainly because he lost his heart to a team when he was a young boy an loyally stuck with it for the rest of his life.

I am sure,if the world gets the pleasure of welcoming little Dave's,the all be sporting the red as well.First out of family traditional then out of chose when there wise enough to make up there own mind.

Anyways your a supporter if your love is unconditional.Your a fan when its not.

As for all the USA citizens,i can understand why you would have difficulties supporting your team when it moves to a city a thousand miles away all of a sudden (really football could learn a lot from you guys but changing citites so casually isnt one of them).

Btw also a fan of the blackhawks and i would never betray them.....even if those piguins rise from the death again.
