YOUR final thoughts?

I really enjoy the WC when it comes around every four years.
Not only do I enjoy the drama of it all, but also that it's the one time that I can make absolutely neutral conversation about sports with other people.
I'm glad Spain won it.
Even though I have an American passport I have absolutely ZERO interest in the usual American spectator sports; baseball, football, and basketball.

The English team showed up at the competition thinking they were doing their country a favour. These prima donnas figured they wold just walk to the semis.

The Dutch are still sobbing their hearts out about the referee, Webb.

I thought Webb did a spectacular job just keeping the Dutch team on the field. Many refs would have had the team down to 9 men after the opening ten minutes!

These players have a lot to learn about losing.

I'm with you TM........If there was that much diving in any hockey game the penalty boxes would be full the whole game and there wold be a helluva lot of 5 on 3's and 4 on 3's.......

You want to make this game better.....clean up the officiating.....start calling dives.....and defintely install instant replay.......might be a good idea to get some guys who actually have a pair playing too....... never seen so much whining and crying and superficial injuries in my life in any sport......one second the dude is writhing in pain holding his knee and 2 minutes later he's dashing after the ball

Good reasons this sport will never gel in the USA.....plus no money......the lowest paid players in the NFL make $800,000 and those are few and far between

Well said Jake and very true. Its all in the mind . I hate Cricket .. so what, it does make it a bad game.. just that i dont like it.

I would just bring in electronics and video as in the case of England it was 4 years wasted down to no chip in the ball.

Now that its over there a bit of a hangover but the Prem season isnt far away. The World Cup is like the NCAA Tourney (for you Yanks) in that success and failure are measured in different ways. The fact that the USA made it out of the group in dramatic fashion can be deemed successful. Englands performance must be deemed as an abysmal failure-the same as "Big Guns" France and Italy.

The shocks and upsets are what make things fascinating. So,etimes the minnows come good. New Zealands performaces can be deemed successful although they didnt make it out of its group. The fact that uruguay made it to the smis was a shocker and made them quite happy. Its game v Ghana was an instant classic with loads of drama. Although Spain only beat Paraguay 1-0 that didnt tell the story. Penalty saved, penalty made then retaken, then missed.

If you would ahve said that BOTH Brazil and Argentina would be eliminated even BEFORE the semis you would have thought I was nuts. It happened. Maradonna you either love him or loathe him. He added a lot and germany's back to back 4-0 drubbings of both England and Argentina were both a shock and a breathtaking to see.

Too bad the final was such a shitty game-an anticlimax but the better team won. Congrats to Spain/Catalan National Team(s).

I thought the final wasn't too bad.The WC Final is usually an anti-climax-do you remember the 94 final yawn fest,brazil vs italy-terrible- argentina vs germany in 90?-even worse.

I quite enjoyed the final,as finals go.Holland could have won it twice with robben going clear,before Iniesta wrapped it up for Spain.I thought he was the best player on the pitch,so I was pleased for him.Roll on the premier league...

Never underestimate the Germans when it's tournament time

the Irish would probably have done better than the French.

Hell, the Irish SUPPORTERS would have done better than the French. Yes it would have been quite interesting to see how the Irish would have fared. We all know their support would have added A LOT!!!! But there is something to be said for a train wreck.......

england were fucking crap but you cannot change the way the game is played i remember the the yanks wanted 4 quarters when they held the world cup for tv adds and got fucked off big time was there not 1 nfl game that got started again because the cameras were not rolling (i like yank football) i think we should have more tec for some things but leave it as it is or fans will leave
