There have only been 3 Super Bowls so far played in cold weather cities, and they were all in domes.

Before the league merger  and SB's there were regularly  "NFL Championship" games in cities like Chicago and Baltimore and of course Green Bay, where they say the coldest game ever on record was played for the title in 1967 against the Cowgirls {ya think THOSE guys enjoyed playing that day??}

well, having a few more years under your belt than he or I  you probably actually WATCHED  those games, which is a real feather in your cap!  I have only seen the highlights.....I used to love the way Jim Taylor was the unsung hero of all those old Packers teams,  but with pretty boy Hornung getting all the credit.

 Loved the B/W footage of the old Johnny Unitas/Raymond Barry Colts teams also..... those were the days!

Yes, if you include the championship games from the old NFL there were a lot of pre Super Bowl championship finals played in bad weather. But, also look at the dates they were played. The seasons these days through Super Bowl weekend are ending over a month later. That just increases the chances of inclement weather and extremely cold temperatures.

One group of people whom I will bet never got asked to offer input, are the players. Given the choice, what pct of them do you think would prefer to play the Super Bowl in 10 degrees wind chill and snow, compared to clear, calm and 75 degrees?

I'm sure I watched games before that time, but the earliest game I recall vividly was the Dallas - Green Bay, so called Ice Bowl. That was as miserable of conditions as any game ever. It was so cold that official's whistles froze and they could not blow them at all after the first few plays.

I hope we don't ever have to see a Super Bowl played in anything remotely similar. To me, to even be outside in those conditions was potentially life threatening. - 13 degrees F, and a - 31 F wind chill factor is not weather anyone should have to be out in, except in case of emergency. Since the Super Bowl was two weeks away, the game could have been postponed 1 week, IMO, and probably should have been.

Depending on how you choose to determine it, the Ice Bowl is challenged by the Freezer Bowl for coldest game ever. Actual temp was lower in the Ice Bowl, but wind chill factor was lower in the Freezer Bowl.

P.S. I don't watch basketball, I find it boring, baseball and football are sports you can play, watch and enjoy and its about heart, not about a certain type of body. Case in point: Hines Ward and Tim Lincecum.

You know I have mixed feelings about this. Lets face it, New York should have this showcased game. I mean, its mostly about parties and entertainment and all the beautiful people. You know the teams involved get less than 10% of the tickets?? Its a disgrace. As long as there isnt any SEVERE weather, it will be a smashing success. If there is a blizzard, then its going to be a farce. If theres a little snow, rain anywhere between 30 F and 50 F its gonna be GREAT.

As far as having the game played in only pristine conditions, how come they dont play the NFC/AFC Championship games in warm climes??

Because you EARN the right to host those games by having a good season and if you play in a cold weather place and have a great team like the 2000's dynasty New England Patriots {heh heh} you deserve to play your conference game against the pussy Indy- Domed -Colts or the pansy San Diego Fucking Lifeguards in COLD weather with the potential to ruin the game; for THEM!!!  It's what you get for going 14-2 or 12-4; the Saints did it this year and got to play in a dome rather than potentially in Green Bay or Jersey against the Giants, etc......

     BTW......  there is nothing New York and 'glamourous' about this selection.....it's in freaking Joirsey!!

         But......and I hate to say it......I do believe the JETS are an up and coming team with that pretty boy from USC at the helm for the next 10 years, and they have a great DE...... by 2014 that could be a home game for them, ugggghhhhhh

They are building a team of superstars of bad behavior. A good team can carry 1 or 2 questionable charecters. You can't carry 20 of them and can't have a bad QB. Case in point.. the Giants carried Plaxico.

The Jets are carrying too many and it'll sink them till they realize this.
