That is going to be a classic. What an unusual year. At the end of the season a whole bunch of undefeated teams are left, no teams exist that have just one loss, and the championship game is being played tomorrow instead of the BCS Championship finale because the #1 and #2 teams are both in the SEC! So the BCS system has failed once again, creating the very controversy it was supposed to eliminate:
Every team that ends this season undefeated can consider themselves deserving a share of the national championship no matter who the BCS endorses.
The loser of #1 gators vs #2 tide tomorrow will be kicked down and denied the prestige of playing in the BCS championship game.
A playoff format once again would have been the right choice since #1 and #2 would have the chance to meet in the final game and every undefeated teams would have a chance to prove themselves. More importantly playoffs would create a lot more interesting games which would be good for college ball. Computers shouldn't decide championships, teams should do it on the field. There, that's my BCS rant.
I like college footbal although I live in an area of the country (the NY metro area) that has no ties at all to college football. It has been a bit of a boring season so far. there havent been many big games at all but this one has the potential to make up for it!! The weather in NY is shitty today (we might have snow tonight) and I am looking forward to a classic. I think maybe like last year when Bama kept it close but the gators pulled away in the end!!!
Jadeite, I agree almost completely. I think the three rankings combined helps to sort out some elements that are difficult to compare, but I think the BCS should spit out at least a final 4 which would play two rounds of championship game to give a real winner.
The problem is that some divisions just produce better teams overall. It wouldn't be fair to have 1 SEC team and 3 weak teams simply because they happened to dominate their divisions. In reality, 3 or 4 teams from the SEC would be the strongest every year. And that wouldn't be fair to the other divisions either.
Also, a guaranteed divisional competition would see teams slack off once they were slotted for playoffs. Whereas, the BCS means you have to bring your "A" game even against non-division and show game teams, even after your bowl games are assured.
You wouldn't want to see Bama not care if they beat Tennessee-Chattanooga just because they're a non-SEC team, even after Bama's post season is already set. The BCS forces them to bring it every time.
But I'm wholeheartedly for a BCS leading to a final 4.
As to Alabama vs Florida itself, I'm hoping and praying that Bama can pull it out.
Tebow is probably the better quarterback, but McElroy is competent and can get the job done. He also has the ensemble team to pull it all together. This may be a game of defense and kicking. If McClain can shut down Florida defensively, we can make room for scoring later in the game if it's required.
Lee Tiffen may win this game, as he's done before in the season. His kick is a laser activated guided missile. If Bama can get it in range, he can chip away at kicks instead of turning over possession of the ball. Eat up clock time and delay the uncertainty of possession change that way.
Maze, Richards, and Ingram can do their work.
I think the key is going to be what Auburn did to Alabama in the first quarter. Surprise the shit out of Florida right out of the gate, keep their defense from knowing what to do. Try to sack the shit out of Tebow early and often. Freak him out, get him off his game.
Bama is taking St Tim Tebow to the woodshed and Mark Ingram may be getting his Heisman pose ready. Although a good game by Colt McCoy tonight could give him the trophy............
Now lets talk Texas-Alabama...............unless??

Didnt see the end of Texas-Nebraska put, the way it sounds, Nebraska got jobbed!! They put time BACK ON THE CLOCK?? What the fuck....Maybe the officials were told U of T has to win to prevent BCS chaos. Had they lost who would have played Bama?? Now THAT would ahve been interesting.......
Alabama kicked ass! Tebow crying on the sidelines, a good thing or not? I predict he will be drafted in the 3rd round and have a decent
NFL carreer.
Tebow in the NFL? Doubt that he will be a success at QB-no way. Some team MIGHT have a position for him. Imagine that a Heisman Trophy winning college QB not a starting QB (or even a 1st round NFL pick) in the NFL. It MUST be racism......
