  • Veterans Day and Remembrance Day don't forget!

Today is Rememberance day in Canada and Veterans day in the USA.
Most people are not allowed to celebrate our veterans in public today but it is important to remember.
People shouldn't forget the past so we don't make the same mistakes in the future.
Young people are losing this and others are trying to detroy our history.

Here some pics from where i visited the Vimy Ridge memorial site in France. This was Canada's first greatest battle where we took the ridge from the Germans in WW1.
France gave this land to Canada in recogition of this event and is considered Canadian Territory.

In WW2 Hitler did not destroy it during the occupation but actually admired it's peacefulness.

Of course i am with my LB friend Cake from Thailand, but living in Paris.

My great uncle died in WW1 in 1917. Two of my uncles served in the British Navy in WW2 and one uncle served in the Canadian Navy in WW2. They all made it through the Battle of the Atlantic escorting convoys between North America and the UK.

My son served in the US Navy for five years. My daughter in law served in the US Army for 8 years.

The day of remembrance is November 11 in Europe. The cease fire took effect on November 11th, 1918 at 11 AM. In France, we also celebrated this 50th anniversary of the death of General de Gaulle. If you add the Day of the Dead, November is usually a sad month (notwithstanding the sharp reduction of the length of daus and temperatures going down.

Toured Vimy Ridge in the summer of 2018. Driving towards it you can see it on the hill from a few kms away. I have to say Parks Canada has done an excellent job maintaining the site, the small museum and gift shop, as well as the tour guides who are very knowledgable about the history of the battle. It was astounding to see how close the German and Canadian trenches were in some place, 10 metres.

When I did the tour I was the only Canadian there in the group of 15. Everyone else was from other parts of Europe such as Germany, UK, Belgium, and France.

The wikipedia link below has a very good writeup of the battle.

The CBC link below is to a story about the 1936 unveiling of the monument as it took 11 years to build and prepare the site including removing some of the unexplored ordnance (UXO). You can see from Crag's photos above that some UXO has not been removed. The 1936 video clip of King George VIII dedication is interesting as is the 1968 video clip of a veteran giving a CBC reporter a tour of the trenches and recounting his experiences there.

Eighteen years after the end of the First World War, a memorial crowned Vimy Ridge, where Canadian soldiers won the hard-fought battle in 1917.

Pierre Berton's book titled Vimy is an excellent detailed account of the planning, training, preparation, tunnel digging, bombardment and the attack. Very very detailed.

One chill Easter dawn in 1917, a blizzard blowing in their faces, the four divisions of the Canadian Corps in France went over the top of a muddy scarp knows as Vimy Ridge. Within hours, they held in their...

Look forward to the upcoming movie GREYHOUND with Tom Hanks. It is incredibly good as I just saw the previews yesterday. So many war stories untold. Understand why many veterans prefer never to talk about it. So dehumanizing.

In 1954, after the Korean War, President Eisenhower officially changed the name of the holiday from Armistice Day to Veterans Day. Nov. 11 became an annual day to honor and recognize the service and sacrifice of all Veterans – living and deceased – of all wars.

No wreath Ceremony at Arlington National Cemetary because of Covid.
What are people so scared of? The virus has a 99.9% survival rate.
These people risk their lives for real but we are too scared to honor them?
Just BS and lies all around.

99% survival rate? What's the morbidity rate? Getting blood clots all over your body and in every organ is no laughing matter.

The overall survival rate for Covid is 99.9% that is a fact. I suppose the morbidity rate would be the opposite which is .1% across all groups.

If you are very old or have other vulnerablities then don't go lay wreaths. Anyone young should be able to do this with almost no risk.

You can't throw up every single possible side effect of covid like everyone gets it. Blood clots is one thing that rarely can happen.
If you are scared or vulnerable stay home.

There is all sorts of risks and side effects of influenza and many other diseases for vulnerable people.

If dairy products give you gas, don't eat them. For example. Everyone needs to start deciding on their own risk, not other peoples risk.
                    The panic is beyond ridiculous.

These people lose their lives for their country yet everyone is now too afraid to honor them? What the fuck are they afraid of?
I'm pretty sure Nazi artillery was far worse than covid. What a bunch of scared children everyone has become.

I wonder what the morbidity rate was in the Ovens of Auswitch. (100%)

Is the glass 99.9% full or .1% empty?

Yes, they are in the same building but it is fairly small. They call it the Vimy Visitor Education Centre. The link has pictures of it. The first one is the entrance. It was opened in 2017 and I visited in 2018. There is a brief writeup on the About page of the link.
