This sordid saga of one Charlie Rangel pinpoints how screwed up things are.  I know most board members, especially foreign ones, dont have any idea who he is.  The guy was, not so long ago, a very powerful member of Congress.  He was the Chairman of the Ways & Means Comittee,which actually writes the tax laws.  The guy should be in prison.  The amount of hubris he has shown has been shocking.  His idiot constituants reelected this crook in November for the 21st time.  FFS!!!!

I can't believe I'm agreeing with BB on a political issue, but you nailed every point on this one. She is unelectable and as a staunch democrat, I'm launching the "Democrats for Palin 2012" committee in the hopes we can get her on the Republican ticket. Would be the best thing possible for Dems in 2012.

As for Rangel - this guy makes me ashamed to be a dem. He should be in prison, not in Congress. Sadly, it's not a democratic or republican issue, it's a POLITICS issue, but that only makes me all the madder. The Democratic leadership should take a stand and make it clear that this sort of treason/corruption will not be tolerated by ANY member of the Democratic caucus and actually step in and clean house. But of course that won't happen. These assholes (Dems and Pubes) are all so busy wiping each other's asses when it comes to overlooking the corruption, it's despicable. There is no accountability at all, and we the people continue to accept that. It's time for this bullshit to end, but sadly it's really only just beginning with the new Supreme Court decision which allows corporations unfettered financial access to the political process.

We have now gone beyond the point of no return.

She deserves no ones respect, at least not in regards to her political career. Maybe your pointing to some other area of her life that we should give her some respect regarding? Otherwise, please explain why anyone of sound mind and judgement should respect this idiot. If she was running a mini-mart or a checker at Walmart, you might get some agreement. But a politician that knows nothing about national affairs and quits her public service position 2 years into a 4 year contract so she can make TV shows and earn millions from a speaking campaign fomenting hate and revolt? No - she should not earn ANYONE's respect.

If you could combine the personailty of Palin with the brains of Hilary the you would have a formidable populist candidate.

OTOH, stupid senators or supreme court justices may not be so bad.

Having a populist Mr Smith guy in Congress would be pretty cool. He would be marginalized by his colleagues but maybe be able to educate the American people about all the legal and semi legal corruption.

Supreme Court is interesting. If you are left winger do you want an obviously competent guy like Judge Roberts who will be able to influence his colleagues or a lightweight like Clarence the Clown?

Personally, I like Judge Roberts despite my being slightly left of center.

And I would really like to see a principled guy Like Mr Smith as a Senator. But not as POTUS.

Love the Mr. Smith Goes To Washington reference. I've harbored a fantasy of that actually becoming a reality for years now, and thought maybe Obama would be our Mr. Smith. I still think he'd like to be, but I believe he's run into the wall where his convictions and actions aren't the equal to the entrenched corruption and he's unable (don't think it's unwilling... I think it really is about ability) to get mad enough or dirty enough to actually force the change that he'd like to champion.

But anyway, if you've never seen the Jimmy Stewart/Frank Capra classic, watch it.

Sarah Palin will never get close to the Republican nomination for President. I've been a Republican for 40 years and I would never vote for her. She is an embarrassment. Ann Coulter would make a much better candidate.

The thought of her being President is downright depressing. Just in case everybody forgot there is still one Bush out there who has never been president. We still got Jeb Bush former Govenor of Florida.
