You're being a wee bit picky today PigDogg!!! What about Barney Miller? Does he qualify even though it was a sitcom?

Michael Chiklis - Vic Mackey
Can't work out if he was the hero or the villain but he was certainly a bad ass cop who you wouldn't want to get on the Bad side of. Was a brilliant series.
and there is always the immortal Harry Calahan, justice with a .44 magnum.
Don't like. well Hioratio is kind of a tosser isn't he. Fuck the sensitive carring side. Just be a hard bastard who catches bad guys, it's simple really.Beer Baron

OMG!! I don't know most of those American names...
What cultural cul-der-sac have I been stuck in the past 30 years?
When it comes to favourites, there's only one... REBUS.Attached FilesDespite the high cost of living, it continues to be popular.

(donnykey @ Sep. 25 2010,20:14) David Caruso who plays that cop in CSI Miami is no doubt the worst actor in the history of the acting profession.
FFS he talks to the floor.
Now Caruso plays Fellatio and seems to be just about the same character as Kelly.

Love :
Jack Regan (Sweeney)
Rrrrreeeeebus
Frost
CI Craven from Special Branch
Taggart the 1st, and his replacement DCI Bukkkkk
Those Miami Vice guys
Barnaby and Hathaway (looks like a Cambridge version of a Football hooligan )
Can't stand :
Most Yank crime series, except Barney (love that theme music) and the original Starsky & HutchDid you exchange a walk-on part in the war for a lead role in a cage

(Bumpa STIKKA @ Sep. 25 2010,18:53) I Really Like...
DCI Barnaby (Midsomer Murders)
DCS Christopher Foyle (Foyle's War)
DS James Hathaway (Lewis)
There are plenty of TV coppers who fall in the middle... Frost, Allyn, Linley, Cracker,Taggart Bergerac, etc...
I really DON'T like...
All American cops... with the possible exception of Dexter
Inspector Morse
Wallander
Jane Tennison (Prime Suspect)
I guess you are referring to Kenneth Branagh who played the character in the BBC-series as otherwise there have only been 2 or 3 Swedish actors playing the part. I definitely liked the character in Mankell's books, almost considering him an alter ego to some extent.
I don't know if guys from the US, Australia, etc. are even familiar with that Wallander-character although most of the books have been translated into English. Manarak should know him being European.
And as I am talking to Brit here, Helen Mirren has always been one of my favorite actresses and she starred in some police detective series. Just can't recall the title now.

(PigDogg @ Sep. 26 2010,17:25)(El_hefe @ Sep. 25 2010,22:54) Barney Fife...
But Andy Taylor was an excellent sheriff. Calm and reasonable, the use of force was seldom nescessary.
To me though the best TV cop was actually a US Marshall, Matt Dillon.
