  • Gay Marriage

I thought all you pole-smoking queens and bottom boys out there would like to know that the 9th Circuit Court of California just overturned the ban on gay marriage that had been put in place by a ballot initiative, prop. 8.

Yipee, so now it will be appealed and will most likely get to the Supreme Court eventually.

    Check it out here:

About time. Even Argentina a predominantly catholic country can accept it, so why can't the US?

Maybe I sound insensitive but its not the case at all. I do care!  But if I had to live my whole life based on how everyone might be sensitive to me.. I would not be living my life as I want it. So you can accept me and my flaws as I am or you can't.

The states and the feds should stay out of the marriage business....get rid of the tax incentives and let marriage be between 2 people who love each other and are willing to attest to that....nothing else should matter. Maybe it's time to let the libertarians run things....

I think you're right.. there's no reason for anyone to get legally married at the moment.

Best thread title in ages Strocube.... Great job!

When I heard this news tonight on my drive home, I began thinking about how this will go once it makes it's way all the way to the Supreme Court. What path will they lead us down, one of freedom and liberty or one of bigotry and religioulosity?

If the Supremes do the right thing, it will be an epochal decision. Will it be the modern equivalent of the Dred Scott case, or the 21st Century equivalent of the Civil Rights Act? Will they do what's correct morally, or support the conservative and religious agenda that funds so much of politics today in America?

Stay tuned - we should know the answer in the next 24-36 months.

(deepthroat @ Aug. 05 2010,13:03) Will they do what's correct morally, or support the conservative and religious agenda that funds so much of politics today in America?
Morally correct?  You are joking right?  Both sides of this fight rely on that argument.  Proponents of Prop. 8 say it's immoral for gays to marry, opponents of Prop. 8 say it's morally wrong to exclude gays from the right to marry.

Abortion is morally wrong so it should be banned, right?  KKK marches are morally wrong so they should be banned, right?  Flag burning?  Things should be banned based on their constitutionality, not on whether liberals or conservatives feel they are "moral".

In this country, there are rules - it's called the Constitution - and I, for one, would sure as fuck like someone to start following them.

That said, this is mostly a 14th amendment issue, and after reading much of the ruling, Judge Walker (appointed by George H. W. Bush, btw) appeared to make his ruling on those issues.    The ruling is 138 pages long. https://ecf.cand.uscourts.gov/cand/09cv2292/

"moral" of course means exactly what it implies - the decision that I (Deepthroat) know to be the right one for the right reason.

Is there still some confusion about that?

Women having the right to chose what to do in regards to their own body and people having the right to chose their marriage partner without interference from the government are both the right and moral decision.

Get with the program EyeMahk. You're making this far too complex. Just check with me (PM would be best) and I'll tell you which is the right moral decision. OK?

By the way, I'm pretty sure the Constitution in on my side on this one as well. And I for another would sure as fu*% like to see us go back to following it too!

There's no right or wrong answer to my question since its an opinion but do you feel they followed the rules of law in Bush v. Gore irrespective of if you're a liberal/ moderate/ conservative voter.

Glad you agree with me and Judge Walker on this. All I was suggesting is that it is a constitutional issue.

I'll marry you Tan ... But can we have the honeymoon first?

                        I won't Tan...You're too old for me...

                        Back to the topic...

This decision solely impacts California...Which by the way, isn't even defending the State against
the lawsuit...Both Arnold and Jerry apparently don't give a rat's ass (or a gay boy's ass either) so
the suit is being defended by a private firm...Hey all you voters who voted for Prop 8, isn't that interesting...
But I'm sure before the ink is dry an appeal will be filed in the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals...

A second interesting aside, the two clowns representing the petitioner were the attorneys involved
in the Bush v. Gore carnival...They were opposing attorneys then...Now they're butt buddies...
