  • Receiving Money by Western Union

I'm interested in details about how to receive money by Western Union in Thailand.

When they check your identity, what proof of ID will they accept?

Of course Passport, but what about other papers?
    International driver's license?

Do they pay particular attention to visa stamps, validity?

do they make copies of the ID or do they only have a look?

    Thank you!

You will only need your Passport as ID depending if a small amount of money is sent. (up to 25,000 baht for e.g)

All you need to fill in on the form is your name and the Senders name plus the MTCN number

If larger amounts of money are sent then you will two forms of identifacation, e.g. Passport & Driving Licence

Yes, but what small amounts are you talking about?

Its not worth sending money via western union unless its amounts of say 7500-10,000 baht

I sent 10,000 baht to   last Saturday

And before people start jumping to conclusions it wasnt to a P4P girl

I don't know how much it is over there but its a good 6-7% to send it from the states to LoS. Send between $500-1000 costs a $65 flat feet.

Maybe I sound insensitive but its not the case at all. I do care!  But if I had to live my whole life based on how everyone might be sensitive to me.. I would not be living my life as I want it. So you can accept me and my flaws as I am or you can't.

Try comparing the prices for Moneygram.
They have more agents in Thailand than Western Union and are usually cheaper for smaller amounts.

ID requirements and proceedures are the same as WU.

ok, I checked today at WU.

They do not check or make copies of the visa (as expected).
But they do make a copy of the ID page of the passport.

By the way, for opening an account with Kasikorn, they also do not check or make copies of the visa.
