ha ha , i wonder how many here have tried to get there head around Philosophy for real. A difficult subject to say the least but fascinating none the less
Also , the learned Ancients such as Plato , Socrates , Aristotle etc etc.
Surprising how much these guys actually knew when you investigate the History of Western Civilization. It is said that if the Ancient Greeks had not collapsed then a man would have been on the moon a thousand years ago.
(guydesavoy @ Jun. 28 2010,19:14) 1. Nothing is black or white. Absolutes are for fools and young players.
I agree with guydesavoy No.#1 1000%.
Mine are ?
1.) Patency really is a virtue.
2.) Dont judge others before one judges thyself.
3.) Honesty can be honest to a fault & not always wise to reveal such information at the spare of the moment without any Analysis.
I can't take credit for my No.#1 & 2 but I will take credit for No.#3. Had to figure this one out on my own. I figured guydesavoys No.#1 out on my own years ago but he posted it first and a wise choice I agree.
1) Anger is a destructive force that needs to be let go of as soon as practical. It serves limited purpose & is more corrosive on the people who harbour it than those against who it is directed. Prisons around the world are full of the angriest people. How clever of them was that?
And a life well lived is the best revenge.
2) The truth can set you free. It sounds like some sort of advertising slogan but consider it. Nothing else can stand close examination more than the truth. When all the lies, excuses, etc are exposed, what's left? Only the truth will save you.
It isn't easy to be scrupulously honest in our every day dealings. Lying by omission is universal ("I didn't lie! I just didn't say the whole story") - it is a karmic "get out of jail free card" but when the failure to inform results in loss & suffering, it is no less reprehensible than straight out deception.
And no, I am not claiming some moral superiority, it's just an important thing I learned.
3) The pen is mightier than the sword. Another slogan but so true.
One comment about learning to read - it means nothing without the ability to comprehend i.e. to truly understand the meaning of what you are reading. And that applies to writing as well. There are many times I have read someone's cryptic post on the forum written in jargon & had to decipher what was meant. Sometimes I am not sure what the poster was getting at & if I miss it, how many others?
What was that great line by Churchill when he said there is nothing more perfect than a well written sentence?
Despite the high cost of living, it continues to be popular.
2. Never Trust a person in an HSE department: remember they dont give a shit for your safety, their sole purpose is to shed responsibility for any accident from the company onto an individual to limit liability. They believe you can mitigate anything. Fucking and complete idiots who couldn't do the job so moved into middle management and drive anyone who can do the job nuts.
Never trust a "New Age" Guy. Soft cocks one and all. Toughen up you fucking homos. Stop wearing cheese-cloth and neck-jewelry that looksd like it was made by kindergarten kiddies. You are not to be trusted with your feminist sympathies. Oh, and women dont like you either.

Dont understand this Term. Never heard it before. Think I'll google it to see if I can read more about it.
I never used the definition of sympathies in my life. If ever the word has crossed my frame of thought my instincts tell me ; " Revenge is a dish best served cold."
Sympathy ? Did not even cry when my dad died. It is what it is. I am courious about this comment that F0xxee made.
I guess I am alluding to persons (men) who sympathise, or have empathy with the solidarity of the sisterhood.
That is a shite repsonse, so I will try again.
Sympathy in a nut shell means to be able to put yourself in the position of another.
Sympathies in this instance means a sense of solidarity with the feminist movement.
For expample if Helen Reddy decided that men leaving the toilet seat up was "Fascist Male behaviour that degraded women with the assumption that as women need to squat to piss they are inferior" A male feminist symapthiser would think "Right on Helen you are the Wo-person for me! I will never leave the seat up and degrade another wo-person again!"
Where as I would think "Shut the fuck up Helen and get back to hanging the wallpaper, and oh, the baby needs its nappy changed and get me a beer while you are at it."
Got it?

Ahwww, I understand this now. FUCK Google, I got F0xxee to rely on.
Thanks bro. By the way, I agree with your explaination. I just never heard the term before.
Maude the bra burner if you catch my drift of the T.V. show back in the 1970's U.S.A.
Helen Redding was a good example for your explaination.
In regards to his #3 ("no regrets") -- that's a tough one to master. And if you haven't yet mastered it, as the Butthole Surfers said, "It's better to regret something you did than something you didn't do..."
I am in complete accord with the Butthole Surfers on this issue. So much so, in fact, that I practically consider myself one of them, a Butthole Surfer . . .
