  • The three most important things I learned

Ok I'll start.  The three most important things I learned  From the serious to the trivial

1st   Learned to read (& Write).  Many things good and bad followed from this. Once you learn to read you can go many places, and the passport to much knowledge, not all of it useful.  See the book threads.  Reading is probably more important than writing.

2nd  Learned how to make good cup of Tea.   Many good things followed from this. It's the ritual that opens many doors and social interactions.

3rd   Learned to ride a bike.  The mobility, and the time saving, the ticket to explore your environment etc

There is many more but that will do for a thread start.

    I agree

Reading and writing is No1. yes yes yes

The perfect cup of tea is pretty difficult with all this dreadfull hard water in Central London. but again its high on the list

but on number three i walk now instead. Had two cars stolen and i aint buying another. its time to get a bike again methinks

      1) I would have to put Torurot's number 1 as my number 1 also. The ability to read is the road to all else. I cannot imagine living a life as an illiterate.

      2) In the past 18 years I have learned to be a father. Prior to that I doubt if I knew or understand what real love was. This is a tremendous gift. The learning continues.

      3) It has taken a half century but I have learned to accept and respect all creatures that can laugh or cry.

          1. Nothing is black or white. Absolutes are for fools and young players.

          2. You may think you're right today, but tomorrow is another story (only fools never change).

          3. Life is like a ladder. Wherever you stand, there is a hand below you reaching up, and one above reaching down. So always give someone a hand, and accept the hand that is extended to you.

          The rest I already knew

            Part 2.

            1. To thine own self be true. You are always your own moral compass. Even when you're wrong. It's called growth.

            2. All love is silent.

            3. All your roads will lead to Rome, however long and winding.

            The rest etc...

Goodnight friends, I'm doing a reverse Mirimark

            Nice thread torurot

                  1. Never accept a law without questioning it. "Why" is the most important word in any language. When you ask why, you ask for a reason, a proof, a hypothesis. You question religion, science, tradition, what elders say, pretty much everything and you can even find answers to interesting questions, e.g. why are Aryans more related to Indians than German Nazi's? Who actually beat Alexander the Great badly enough that his troops mutinied and refused to go further? Why does no one question, edit the writings of the Koran? Why is buddhism more popular in other parts of the world than where it was developed? Why do tv shows keep shouting low taxes, buy this stock and after listening to them, the stock nosedive into oblivion? Why is it the birthers refuse to accept a legitmate birth certificate copy provided by the state of hawaii? Why is it after 40 years, some people still believe the moon landings were a fake and produced, shot from some studio in Arizona? What caused the 2004 sumatra megathrust? I choose to question, before I accept the generic answer without any proof so hopefully I won't be buying any beach front property in Kansas.

                  2. Always watch your rear, especially at work. You don't have any friends at work. You just have co-workers who wouldn't think twice to make you look bad, or screw you over if it means getting a salary raise, so always do things yourself and with focus. Your hobbies can wait till you're free. This is a life rule.

                  3. Don't get depressed over why relationships don't work out. It took me 16 years of depression to master this but I found out, Every relationship whether romance or friendship requires give and take on both sides, and compromise at other times to stay healthy and continue. Some people are just takers. They take take take but never give back. People like those seem the most sociable and envy for normal people at first, till you see why i.e. people with common sense get tired of them and kick them away so they move on to latch onto other suckers.

Maybe I sound insensitive but its not the case at all. I do care!  But if I had to live my whole life based on how everyone might be sensitive to me.. I would not be living my life as I want it. So you can accept me and my flaws as I am or you can't.

Jake, I like you - will you be around the LOS in August?

1- agree about reading and writing, but that's probably not what was meant... you could also say walking or talking. There are much important things.

                          but:

2- Apologizing later is better than asking for permission first. Use your judgement and act!
                          I learned that rather late.

3- about love relationships, it is always better to lie, lie, lie.
                          I learned that too late.

                              1. Reading and writing - WELL. (Doing it poorly is better than being illiterate, but doing it WELL is much better).

                              2. Learning how to type quickly and correctly - has saved me untold hours/days/weeks of time and made me 2x as productive in earnings as well as much more able to converse in the modern world of email, texts, etc.

                              3. I am protected by my rejections. Thus, those things I think I want that I'm unable to attain are actually protections. That job, that relationship, that new house - whatever they are that I think I cannot live without and then am sorely disappointed when I can't have them - it always turns out that there was something better in store down the road. My Higher Power protects me, and the rejections are how he protects me.
