  • Aural Sex Anyone?

I am sitting in my office watching the Moto GP with Led Zeppelin's Physical Grafitti playing FUCKING LOUD on my iphone, playing air drums (I hope to move up to air guitar soon) on the laptop lid.

    Pure aural sex.

Is this the best ever Rock album?

    Your opinions are, naturally, invited......

I think Houses of The Holy beats PGraffiiti hands down as one of the best albums of all time..A bit to much padding from memory in PG but none the less a great album as indeed were all Zeps albums.

They showed a few of the old Zep concerts last week and i was indeed present at the great "75" Earls Court concert. Aslo see Page and Plant on tour around 10 years ago

      Love em

Zep could be the best rock band, hard to argue with that one I guess; although they were never MY personal fav a lot of my pals liked 'em .

        IMO their best effort was here;

Led Zeppelin IV... 5 out of 8 tracks absolute killers and timeless classics...try the air drums on Rock and Roll foxxee

But they have to be one of the best rock bands ever and definitely in a class of their own

What about III then...i was always a three man rather than a IV man

" The immigrant song " about the Vikings wasnt it. awsome. I never seen them do that live either.. shame..i love that tune. Plant once stated in an interview that Zep were a Folk band. Listen to 3 and one can see why.

Mind you Toni Iommi once said Sabbath were a blues band

Wow foxee.... this is weird...... I was walking down that exact street that the PG cover photo was taken last night to grab some dinner & thinking about that pic! The neighborhood is really gentrified now altho it isn't obvious looking at the current photo.

I love all their stuff, maybe with IV they seemd to distill all that energy without straying too much. Goin to California is pretty folk and Plant was always a bit of a hippy

I was waiting for someone to mention Sabbath

Have to say that I saw LZ several times in the late 60's including their very first show at the Fillmore East (01/30/69) 2 weeks after the release of their first album & they were stunning.... so much so that when I looked up that date just now I have absolutely no memory at all of the other 2 acts on the bill (The Move opened, LZ, Iron Butterfly were the headliners... all for $5.50 first row center balcony!) but I have vivid images of Led Zep's performance all these years later.
I went to a lot of concerts in this era & this is one of the best I ever saw.

Interesting: 9 replies and all agree that LZ are the definitive rockers if not the particular album...

I also have a soft spot for Sabbath... but listening to both last night LZ still have the sheer genius to win out.

Air-drumming is progressing well. Have moved from pencils to rulers. It's support like yours GDS that makes the long road to "Vietnam's Got Talent" worthwhile.

                        Pink Floyd? ROCK?
Hmmm. too mellow to be called rockers to my limited thinking. Technologically advanced but rockers?.... MMMmmmm. maybe sometimes... not really.,.... no.

I think Dark Side may qualify as best album ever..

El Hefe you are a lucky man, particularly since you can actually remember that concert In those interviews where they ask you 'what period in hisrory would you like to travel back to' I would choose late 60s and I'd be hitting all the clubs in LA SF NYC and London

I'd love to see that Vn talent show foxxee

No argument from me - Led Zeppelin were the greatest band, Dark Side of the Moon is the best album.

For rock'n'roll that needs to be played loud with all the head banging moves & air guitar solos, no one sets the mood like LedZep.

I am torn between LedZep II & LedZep IV as my favourite album of theirs. Each features some of their greatest anthems, Whole Lotta Love on II & Stairway to Heaven on IV. Fuck it, LedZep IV has to get the nod.

I even saw them play live on their only visit to Oz, after I managed to get in without paying that is. 12 bucks for a ticket when I was making $25 a week, it was a lot of money...

But I wouldn't have missed them for the world, I can still picture Plant with his flared jeans, open shirt & all that hair raising the microphone stand while Page reeled off riff after riff. He is such an amazing guitarist...

I was reminded just how powerful their sound is when I was watching the closing ceremony of the Beijing Olympics when Jimmy Page popped out of the roof of that red double deck London bus playing Whole Lotta Love.

There is no more potent, driving rock sound in all of the recorded history of rock'n'roll. My opinion perhaps but suggest something better. (Sabbath came close & Tony Iommi is great but they are not as consistent)

It's on YouTube but the lack of volume lets it down.
Despite the high cost of living, it continues to be popular.
