i'd recommend you exempt a few films from your 'no gangster, no war' edict. otherwise you'll miss half of the top twenty movies of all time. (lawrence of arabia, godfather I+II, Ran, Seven Samurai, etc).
and since i see you hated 'the big lebowski' i guess there's no point in recommending my personal 'top two' -- "manhattan" and "annie hall" -- although you might get more than a chuckle out of "bananas".
Definitely NO Woody Allen! It can't be just me who think this idiot isn't funny. He did the voice over of a cartoon a few years back... I think it was about ants.. and after the opening monologue I simply couldn't watch another minute. Dreadful stuff.
