Errr I was referring to shawshank. somehow the 2nd arrow didn't take. Let me see if I can edit it. Big Lebowski can't put anyone to sleep if they've got a pulse.

While Tim Robbins was a perfect the Andy, the role has Tom Hanks written all over it.

DT its weird though I agree and like those movies you named except for Shawshank.
Maybe I sound insensitive but its not the case at all. I do care! But if I had to live my whole life based on how everyone might be sensitive to me.. I would not be living my life as I want it. So you can accept me and my flaws as I am or you can't.

Lawrence of Arabia
David Lean at his best. Great story and brilliant cinematography.
Even more intriguing today when the film explains how the West divided the Middle East having abused their position - the seeds of many of todays problems in the region.

I should have added Jackass, Jackass 2, and Jackass 3D.
Disgusting at times (I actually retched in the theater this weekend during one scene in Jackass 3D!) but one of the most consistently funny, laugh-out-loud hilarious comedy series of all time.Making newbie mistakes since 2009 so you don't have to

I think Scary Movie 3 is pretty funny too. But like most comedies, its hard to laugh at the same joke again unless its a part of a bigger plan.

Apocalypse now! Amazing how much detail is in a 70mm negative
Apocalypse Now gets anamorphic 2.35:1 Blu Ray release
by EOSHD Published on 17-10-2010 02:25 PM
Above: Anamorphic frame of Apocalypse Now in 2.35:1 HD on Blu Ray
Francis Ford Coppola's Apocalypse Now is to be released on Blu Ray in the original anamorphic format with which it was shot.
Shot with anamorphic lenses and transferred to 70mm for the theatrical release then came the heart breaking decision to severely crop the film for the standard 4:3 TV and video cassettes of the time, loosing 40% of the original careful framing and 40% of how the film was intended to look.

(Torurot @ Oct. 21 2010,16:02) Apocalypse now! Amazing how much detail is in a 70mm negative
To the best of my knowledge, there were NO American films shot on 70mm film stock between "Ryan's Daughter" (1970) and "Far and Away" (1992) other than a couple of 70mm Cinerama productions (Song of Norway and The Last Valley) that were never theatrically presented in 70mm.
Plenty of films were shot on 35mm and then "blown up" to 70mm for presentation, including "Close Encounters Of The 3rd Kind", "Star Wars", "Blade Runner" and of course "Apocalypse Now".
But to really get the impact and benefit of 70mm, it had to have been shot on this format. It's about the amount of RESOLUTION and if you're working with a low-res format (as 35mm would be in comparison to 70mm - half the amount of photographic image) then you can only get so much improvement by blowing it up larger.
Hope that makes sense, I don't think I'm doing a good job of explaining. But bottom line, the film was not shot with a 70mm negative, it was enlarged from 35mm.Making newbie mistakes since 2009 so you don't have to
