I'm with you there geezer. I don't go in for the 'us and them' dialogue. As I said, I use both, and the greatest limitation for Mac on the internet side is the lack of compatability for software and apps. Anything you want you can usually find for Windows for free...but for Mac, it takes a while..and Msn is still not Mac friendly for video.. but that's more of a microsoft payback thing..

About the porn, SW can still get TLF on his iPhone...maybe that's a loophole

Internet porn is fine, but I used to have an app called "cute asian girls" that people would up load little hotties too for my yellow fever fix. They were not allowed to upload nude photos but some did anyway which everyone loved but apple had them pulled. Now they have taken off the app all together.   . I do love my iphone but there are some things I don't like. Hence why I'm thinking of the We Pad to get onto android.

Also you can't put AirCrack on an iphone without JailBreaking it which is very annoying as it would be very handy.

Thanks Guy, thanks Geezer, you are both right but none of us know the future.

I like the newspaper experience & read one or two every day. What will finish off newspapers in favour of an iPad-style platform is the rising costs of newsprint, ink, labour & don't forget the frightening increases coming in their distribution costs.

Whether than takes 5 years or 20 years, I have no idea but be sure that it will happen. When a newspaper costs 10 times what it does today & can be read without even having to leave the house for far less, then the print-devotees will lose their argument.

As to not being able to get porn applications on the iPhone, I have to ask what is a porn application? Do you mean a porn website? Because I can get them on mine. I can open this forum for example & read it, look at the photos & even post to it.

EDIT: I just read your comment on porn apps. I still don't know what it is or why you would be bothered by not being able to get it on your phone for there is heaps of porn you can look at without bother.

And AirCrack? Is this something I need to know about?

You may be right about the economics of the Print media..but they will readjust their offer..I don't see it disappearing (remember video/dvd/free to air TV/cinema ?). Technology may change or evolve, but human nature takes centuries to move. So just keep that in mind and factor that into any predictions about the future. Yes, no one knows the future, but we can learn from the past and experience   so the key here is to understand human nature more, and get excited/influenced by technology less  

Aircrack I think is a way to hack into others' wi-fi protected networks (?)...

Aircrack is used for cracking wireless keys so you can use your neighbours internet (not that I condone that). Be useful for a bit of "wardriving" which is going around trying to crack wifi networks. If your in a place often that you know has wifi networks but don't know the key you can crack it and, bingo, wifi access.

Internet porn is ok if the site has been designed for iphone use which some are these days. But it's a pain having to scroll all the time if it's not developed for iphone. The good thing about the pron apps was you didn't have to scroll as the images were all already sized for you. And we all know that porn is the reason why the internet exists anyway right

have you tired to actually use aircrack ?

it is a pain in the ass.

first you've got to get it to work, you'll need special drivers and stuff, it will probably break your configuration and it takes ages to break into a WLAN. Count half a day if you're lucky!

With wardriving you can't crack the networks, you can just locate them, and hopefully a number of unsecured ones.
Usefulness has been on fast decline though, because most access points now have security that's built-in by default.

Especially those requiring a hardware button to be physically pressed on the access point before accepting a connection from a new MAC address are PITA.

Yeah I run Unbutu on a VM desktop so if I fuck it up it's pretty easy to restore with a snapshot. And it may take a while but you seem the sort to know that this sort of stuff doesn't happen like in the movies. I want it more for work where we don't have wifi but there are plenty of places in the area who do. Be handy to know the key for my iphone so I don't have to rely on a 3g signal if I don't want people knowing what I'm looking up.
