Sweden can call another referendum at any time....the No vote in '03 is not the end of the matter..

As for the definition of Scandinavia ? Finland was once part of the Kingdom of Sweden, and your Brittanica quote does refer to the economic context...which I think is the point here anyway. Some would even argue that Scandinavia is only 2 countries, Sweden and Norway, although the Swedes might think it's just one big country anyway...theirs !

Enough splitting of hairs and heirs. I believe the original reference to 'Scandinavians' in the euro zone stands in the context, although I accept that the finer points of language and debate are often lost on some

(Lefty @ May 20 2010,10:43) Back in the 80s, 1 USD could get you 2 British pounds. Then it completely flip flopped. I  look forward to when 1 USD = 2 pounds again

Early 80's £1 = about $2.05 - 2.10.  As yet it has never been the other way around.

      RR.
It has NEVER in history been the other way around? I wasn't into trading currencies at all in the 80s, but seems like I read, while sober and of sound mind, a few years ago, that the exchange between the two was completely reversed from back in the 1980s time frame.

        the relevant quote:

"The variability of the £/$ rate from 1971 is obviously substantial and can be seen more clearly in the graph below - from a high of $2.44 at the end of 1980, right down to a low of $1.05 (caused by the severe weakness of the pound) in February 1985."

Maybe the 2 for one was the other way round ?

          I get confused

Thanks Guy. I guess I was thinking of the 1 to 1.05 rate of the mid 80s. Ok, I'd like to see that come back again.

I think it's the least the Limeys can do for us.

Maybe we should get Rusty Crowe to sort him out

That means we have to start using it first
                Finland not in Skandinavia then?

I thought the guys running the Eurovision Song contest drew the map of Europe now... Israel is part of Europe according to them so i think Finland and Scandanavisk is not a problem... perhaps email Terry Wogan.

Or maybe ask FIFA, they reckon that Kazakstan is part of Western  Europe   ( is it??)

Actually a better option would be the euro will stabilize and not much else. Recovery of the euro with 14 different countries doing different things isn't easy.

Maybe I sound insensitive but its not the case at all. I do care!  But if I had to live my whole life based on how everyone might be sensitive to me.. I would not be living my life as I want it. So you can accept me and my flaws as I am or you can't.

                            Nope.

Scandinavia (Sweden, Norway, Denmark) + Finland + Iceland are referred to as the Nordic Territories.

Don't think that anyone would like to have Iceland included in any currency.

I agree it is very confusing with different countries being part of European Union, Shengen countries, NATO etc.

And as long as it is easier to order to order a cheeseburger with fries at a Mac Donalds in Bangkok than in Madrid (as I experienced) all this so called European unity will never work.

Reported this morning in the financial section of the Daily Telegraph that by the end of the year Euro Mark 2 will be introduced. Countries in it will be Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Finland and the Benelux.

France will have voluntarily withdrawn and rest would have been expelled.
