    • (Lefty @ Jun. 25 2010,14:33) Just quitting and walking away ain't the same as losing. You lot were there too. Not much help it seems in retrospect.

The Aussies are just lucky we slowed the Japs down in the PI, a few decades earlier, because we all know what their next intended invasion target was.
      Oh touche Lefty,

Thank you for once again enegendering the massive collective guilt us Aussies should feel for the Mighty American War Machine having to rescue our quaint colonial bollocks from the heathen Japs.

Actually WE stopped them in New Guinea. With a little help from you, late as usual.

You stopped them in PI for entirely selfish reasons.

As for Vietnam, we were there for you. As we always are. And for what? WTF have you done for us of late?
There were many less of us for sure. But there are many less of us in the first place.

Quiting and losing is different? Oh really? so you came in second?

I normally have a high regard for your posts, but something seems to have poisoned you well in the last few weeks.

PS: Photos of road kill? Really. Seek help.

Btw if someone's interested in a non p4p ts with caramel skin, 140 lbs, 5 10, in the NYC, USA area, let me know via PM. She's not exactly my type but I had a chance run in with her and seems nice. Thought I'd help since, its just hard to find non p4p'ers out here stateside.

Maybe I sound insensitive but its not the case at all. I do care!  But if I had to live my whole life based on how everyone might be sensitive to me.. I would not be living my life as I want it. So you can accept me and my flaws as I am or you can't.

My posts are going downhill huh? This is the pointless thread after all and this is where I usually post. You want posts with a point? This isn't the thread. Roadkill seems very appropriate for the pointless thread to me. Sorry if I've fell below the standards. kahuna put me on ignore. Now you don't like my posts in the pointless thread. What next? Oh yeah, some fellows didn't like my More  Cowbell avatar so I had to retire it. I can't win for losing lately.

I think we all had selfish reasons for wanting to stop the Japs. We didn't want them winning anything or controlling any other countries. We were all basically protecting our own asses. It would be better to die than live under Jap rule back then. They were vicious, godless and cruel.

I would wonder too if I were Australian, why the govt sends it soldiers to help the USA in the pointless wars we've gotten into starting in the 60s. I wonder why we're there. So I'm sure you all are wondering even more.

Quitting isn't same as losing. Our military was more than capable of doing what they had to do, to win. Somebody wouldn't let us win. Made us fight with one hand tied behind our backs so to speak. I don't pretend to have all the answers on Vietnam War, but that is how I basically perceive it. We should never have been there at all, but if we're going to be, shit or get off the pot. Have a worthwhile and consistent strategy conducive to winning, execute it and stick with it.

                    Roadkill again tonight, Pa?

                    • Hiya Lefty. Yeah even pointless posts sometimes have a point and even posts with a point can somehow be pointless in the long run (cue Eagles...)

I guess the pointless point here is that one aint gonna win friends anywhere by dissing the Australian war effort. The AIF has always punched above its weight and always offered as many, probably more, dead bodies per capita as any nation.

Here's the thing : hindsight is great. We can all look back on Vn and even Iraq now with the benefit of analysis and revelations of the 'truth' about what was really going on. But at the time the need was real and brave and sometimes just plain shit scared people answered the call. No one can take that away from those that did. As an ex serviceman yourself, I think you can understand the concept of duty.   Not saying you intended any disrespect, but let's not confuse politics with duty and service

Now, I promised JaiDee I would uphold the pointlessness of this thread. So I will inform you that in at least 5 Australian States, possum baiting/shooting is an indictable offence. You may be safe in LOS, but I have to warn you we have an extradition treaty with the PI which is strictly enforced...and we have the evidence !

                      Be careful out there

                          • Far be it for me to diss the efforts in any war made by the Aussies. Also, I don't take lightly anyone saying the VC whipped the Americans. So, if one wants to dish out some witty jabs toward us, I don't see anything wrong with similar in return.

I hope you're kidding about possums being protected in Oz. Those fuckers reproduce faster than rats. They have litters of around ten and an 11 day gestation period. You can't shoot 'em or bait 'em, but you didn't say anything about nailing the stupid ones who wander out in the road,

Heck I better stop such a discussion. Mr Foxxee has already determined that I need psychiatric help because of my delight in killing possums, posting a pic of roadkill or perhaps both. I'm going to make an effort to become more sophisticated in my posts from here on out, so as to not offend the sensibilities of the more sensitive amongst our brethren.

Also, what we call possums in North America is actually named the Opossum and is not quite as cute and cuddly as the Australian possums. When I talk about possums, I mean Opossums. Everyone I know uses the shortened and technically incorrect name.
