  • Asian (Oriental) Food...

OK We seem to be doing American food & Oriental food has been mentioned on one of the Threads, so why not do a poll on Asian food.

For Me it has to be Indonesian, just such a vast country, you could eat something different every day, not all good I grant you, but Beef Rendang has to be the best dry curry in the world IMHO. & no one makes Fried rice ( nasi goreng) like the Indo's ( or Malaysians) .My Thai GF would phone me up during the day & ask me to cook it for her & this is someone who b4 she tried it would only eat Thai food. Kambing Bali ( Balinese lamb)is to die for as, is Ikan Bali (Balinese fish)

You forgot Indian, its kind of similar to thai (rice, veggie, seafood) although not that spicy, but I tend to love spicy thai/ indian food. Filipino food would be 3rd as long as its not jollibee.

    Ever try Pancit? Yummy!

I don't mind japanese food either, sushi/ sashimi mmm good, but I don't like korean foods like kimchee YUCK!

Also real cantonese food is way too bland. However peking duck is nice.

Maybe I sound insensitive but its not the case at all. I do care!  But if I had to live my whole life based on how everyone might be sensitive to me.. I would not be living my life as I want it. So you can accept me and my flaws as I am or you can't.

Chinese, Royal Thai Cuisine, Vietnamese are my favorites.

I would add Singaporean to the list, if I knew what it was.
I had many many absolutely tasty meals in Singapore, but everything that wasn't Thai, Chinese, Western etc. was some kind of "fusion" cuisine, i.e. a mix. Singaporeans are champions at blending different cooking styles, it seems. There are hundreds of small restaurants selling their own blend. Mostly very tasty!

That was me. I dont like any of the food choices in the poll. But I know you love the stuff, so thought I'd give your team a vote.

I suppose I've gone and ruined it now.

(seamus @ May 04 2010,01:24) Beef Rendang has to be the best dry curry in the world IMHO.
Agree with you on that one

I also love Malaysian, especially the 'Nonya' style which is a blend of Chinese and Malay influences. On the Japanese side I love a good bowl of ramen (also Chinese influence). Korean BBQ is great too, go easy on the kim chee...  Peking duck, dim sum, a good Szechwan hot pot...Pork vindaloo from India...Burmese curries... caldareta from the PI..

                Hard to pick a favourite

                  Gentlemen,

Japanese is the healthiest and the most delicious, IMHO. The Okinawans (a Japanese prefecture) have what most scientists consider the healthiest diet on Earth, which results in a very long average lifespan with a high quality of life!
                  Best to all,

I've only eaten Korean twice in my life, and it was ok.... not great. It's probably better *in* Korea though. I voted for Chinese, because it's the one I've had the most over the years. I like Thai, but it's a bit too spicy usually and spicy doesn't do well in my stomach.

Can always rely on ya friends ah Tommy !

I think old Dave Duke is a meat & two veg kind of guy as well, but only heard that info 2ND hand. I'm sure there will be a few others that go to LOS that don't like Oriental food, but in saying that I knew it would come out on top.

As for Jap food, it may well be healthy, but is as bland as fook

I had a great Korean Steak once, in the hills of Bandung , Indonesia. But in other Korean restaurants out there Dog was on the menu

I like all food, naturally...however my favorite among the choices is filipino...had some crispy dinuguan while in the PI a few weeks ago...very tasty! That being said...I make an excellent green chicken curry...one of my favorite Thai dishes. Korean is also good...love kim chee.

Reading the topic of this thread reminded of an exchange I had many years ago with a stereotypical country bred Australian chap.

We were discussing food, and I enquired innocently whether he liked Asian Food.

He replied; "I've tried Chinese, Thai & Malaysian, but never had any Asian cuisine".

Given I'm married to a Thai lady, Thai food features prominently on the menu, with both of us cooking it at home every week.

I have a love for Japanese food, not just the standard Sushi & Sashimi, but some of the more interesting cooked dishes.

There are some excellent Japanese restaurants in Melbourne which are anything but boring, and some of the Maki rolls they produce are incredible.

                              Cheers
