  • Finally - A decent Dr Who!

If you don't know: Dr Who is a British science fiction program aimed for family viewing. It's been around for almost 50 years!

You can check out the home page HERE!

I'd better start by saying that my two favourite 'Doctors' were the foppish Jon Pertwee and the irrepressible, chain smoking Tom baker.

That pompous twat Christopher Eccleston fucked up the latest of the 'wide screen' reincarnations of The Doctor and then he handed over the sonic screw driver to the self absorbed, attention seeking, over rated, even bigger twat, David Tennent.

The stars of the 'new' show are the sexy assistant, the dialogue and of course the new Doctor...

And my verdict (after one episode) is that he will probably be one of the best Doctors ever.

After watching the new show I can't figure out if the doors to the TARDIS open inwards or outwards... they did both in the episode I watched! Still not sure where the bowtie appeared from at the end, either. And I wish they would start playing the original theme music instead of the artsy fartsy versions that have dogged the program over the last ten years.

Hey, producers... the music was the BEST BIT you fucking morons.

But those quibbles aside the story was routine... The Doctor has twenty earth minutes to save the planet, lots of running about and high tension, etc. Nothing new there... except that I'm glad it wasn't set in London any more. It seemed like the whole Dr Who universe was centered around the fucking houses of parliament for the last ten years...

I love Catherine Tate but she was a bloody awful Doctor's assistant. My favourite was 'Leela' although I had huge crushes on Sara Jane, Jo Grant... AND Rose Tyler! But after that they just went stupid with an American student, a robot, a black woman, Bonnie FUCKING Langford and even some fat punk rocker! WTF!

The new assistant is genuinely sexy and damn fine to look at... How they managed to track down a thin actress in the UK is beyond me, but well done, them!

Anyway - back to the premise of this thread...

Tonight's episode was the first time I had enjoyed an episode of Dr Who in over 20 years. The attention to detail, the olde English village (actually filmed in Wales!) and the fantastic new (with old bits!) TARDIS... and that sizzling script!

Loads of jokes, a sexy assistant, a convincing Doctor and the usual ludicrous 'Douglas Adams' style story made for a compelling hour of telly.

I hope they maintain this standard for the next few weeks. I'll be downloading a copy each week to make sure!

It's been a long time coming, like The Saints winning The Superbowl, but it looks like the wait was worth it!

    Dr Who is back!

Jo Grant (Katy Manning)   .....  OK, it was a few years ago, when most TTC things worked like this   (on an hourly, not a weakly interval).

Thought Tennant was really good, and I liked Troughton too.  But looking forward to seeing the new Doctor ... Who?

If you don't know: TTChang is a British science fiction creation. Aimed for family viewing, but the censors stepped in after the Stringfellows episode   ..... It's been around for longer than Dr Who

Edit: OMG, I'm sounding like the alien who used to stalk this forum

I prefer the original guy with grey hair ,the very first one. was it William Hartnell. I like small budget science fiction and this was small budget. I think the BBC lost most of the episodes of the original series in some kind of bungle..what a surprise.

Dr Who is probably the only thing the BBC have going for it now. Im surprised thay have any money to spare , what with having to send 290 staff to the world cup this year. Thats 250 too many by most accounts.

Yep, first impressions are that I quite like this new Doctor (ok I suppose) and may find it quite viewable, David Tennent, Peter Davison, Colin Baker,Paul McGann and the long serving
Sylvester McCoy never quite had it for me.

I always thought the best acting was a toss up between K9 and the Daleks. Both of whom returned in an episode I caught when BBC entertainment was being screened in Thailand on UBC. Unfortunately as UBC are too tight to pay for BBC anymore - its history now so not much chance of catching it.

            Cheers

I think the one with Rose was the best. Seeing her always made my crotch itchy and sensitive There is just something about Rose that turned me on big time. None of the various docs do sanything for me.

You sure that wasn't your jock itch Kathylc?

I once went in a building that was like the Tardis. It looked small on the outside but was much larger on the inside. All in the perspective.

Definitely one of the few "very British" entertainments that's never really caught my fancy. I've great reviews of the new Dr. and might eventually find myself catching an episode. Friends of mine that are big sci-fi fans and trekkies even have told me it's fantastic. Might have to check it out one of these days.

Screen Grabs: Blackberry Storm saves the world in new Doctor Who

Screen Grabs chronicles the uses (and misuses) of real-world gadgets in today's movies and TV. Send in your sightings (with screen grab!) to screengrabs at engadget dt com.

While the US was busy delivering a certain tablet product yesterday, British sci-fi fans sat comfortably at home for a brand new Doctor Who series. We won't go into too much detail here, but the eleventh Doctor -- played by the charming Matt Smith -- was spotted writing a computer virus and sending pictures on a BBC-debranded Blackberry Storm, minutes before the aliens were to incinerate Planet Earth. Perhaps the freshly-regenerated Time Lord's a fan of the virtual keyboard? As a bonus, the Doctor also borrowed a disguised 15-inch Acer Aspire laptop for some virtual face time with chief brainiacs around the world, and then promptly reminded the owner to "delete your internet history" in reference to, well, something more disturbing that he found on the computer. And who are we to question the orders of a time traveler?

Update: Turns out the new Lead Writer Steven Moffat learned of his job offer on a Blackberry back in June 2008. http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/cult....il.html Too bad the Storm wasn't due out for another five months, but a quick trip through the time vortex could turn this into an amusing coincidence.... etc

I think I saw that new guy on some recent BBC politco/westminster thingy..with that guy from The Fixer...

Then Tom Baker was on 'Monarch of the Glen'...

I liked Tennant..slightly modern... but agree with KL on who was the best so far..

                            Maybe it's generational
Did you exchange a walk-on part in the war for a lead role in a cage

                              Yikes!

That twat Christoper Ecclescake and Robson Green and that fat minger Amanda Redman should all be shot in the head for crimes against television.

Fuck me - if that's the est we can do for entertainment in the UK I'll stick to Thai soap operas!

That tree Kevin Costner could out act these idiots and that's really stretching it.
