For me it is between Hamburger Hill, Platoon Leader and Platoon. I'm going to rewatch Hamburger Hill before I vote.

I know I left off some good ones like Siege at Fire Base Gloria and 84 Charlie MoPic, but only ten choices allowed. I also did not include The Green Berets, which some may like.

IMO, Apocalypse Now is the most entertaining movie ever, but it is not the most realistic depiction of the VN War.

Especially when that guy was blown off the waterfall and only his smoking boots were left behind, or was that in Apocalypse now? They all blend into one....

Heaps of great movies there to choose from but I chose "The Deer Hunter". For realism I couldn't go past the Russian roulette scene. Pretty gruesome stuff.

(Bumpa STIKKA @ Mar. 18 2010,17:12) For realism I voted The Deer Hunter.
How could anyone vote The Deer Hunter the best Vietnam film for its realism. Only a small portion of the film was set in Nam. Platoon for me wins hands down and it gets my vote for realism aswell. It was a real Vietnam war film, that was set in Vietnam for the entire movie and was solely about the war. Good Morning Vietnam was more of a war film than The Deer Hunter.

The most realistic vietnam movie is the one that replays in my brain on nights when I have difficulty sleeping. I am 63 y.o.and was in Vietnam 1967/1968 . Surely there must be other B/Ms with similar experiences, Any way I voted for 4th of July . I like Tom Cruise and like a movie with an uplifting ending.

I voted Platoon for realism ..... but Apocalypse Now is easily my favorite.
