  • Why would anyone live here?

Been watching the news while eating my pop tarts this morning, and as usual the national weather reports give me a good chuckle.  Fargo, North Dakota in particular; why the hell would anyone live there??  Freezing, 6-month-long winters, no nightlife, and every spring; FLOODING!!

        http://www.google.com/hostedn....EFJ3404

Last year they said they had a '100-year flood' ....so what is this year, the 200 year flood?

Amazing, really ......think about the time some of us spend lying on beaches in Asia or hanging around Pattaya or Phuket in 92 degree weather, and then think about THESE saps!!  Minnesota and Wisconsin; same-same.  I mean, the noetheast is pretty bad weather-wise and I can't wait until I finally pack it in for good and move somewhere much warmer, but the northern midwest is just downright pathetic!!

I won't live anywhere where my house can be under water at any given time.

Yep... we have similar things on a lesser scale in the UK. Who'd live in a flood watch area? As for earthquake, etc... Nutters!

(Bumpa STIKKA @ Mar. 17 2010,21:26) Who'd live in a flood watch area? As for earthquake, etc... Nutters!
Oftentimes, people from ''normal'' parts of a country have to pay a kind of luxury tax on shit [including insurance] for people who choose to live in these creepy [but sometimes beautiful]  kind of places.

Own a house in Malibu or  Laguna Beach which may slide into the fucking ocean at any time?  No problem, the people from Wyoming will help pick up the tab.  Live near San Diego and have wildfires every fall with the potential of your house burning down?  Or *ANY* part of beautiful, sunny california which any day now could be reduced to rubble from an 8.5 earthquake? No worries man, keep driving that trendy convertible and getting skin cancer, if your house is turned into mush the taxpayers will pick up the tab, charity events and auctions will be held and donations collected so we can pay to help the poor people of California get back to living the lifestyle they are used to!!

Somewhere like Fargo?  International Falls, Minnesota {usually the coldest spot in the USA every winter day}?  Superior, Wisconsin? Cleveland, Ohio? Caribou, Maine??  Well, methinks people just feel comfortable settling where they grew up and don't want to leave; they like the familiarity of it and also seeing family and friends, etc....and just staying in the place where they have lived their whole lives already. People are afraid of change and may also have a job they like; or need. And then they are stuck and they CAN'T leave, and have to deal with the misery pictured above.

Not me...I grew up in New England and can't wait to leave permanently .....once I have things settled with family and finances and banking, etc.....this place will be a distant memory forever.  Not as bad as Fargo here of course, but I have traveled a lot these past 12 years and know that there are far better [and cheaper] places to live.

In the UK now they are at the point where they look at your post code to see if you are in a high risk area for flooding, etc. 2 houses in the same street can pay different premiums based on their location. Sort of answers the question who would live there to me!!
I couldn't give a shit how long it is until you're next holiday- I live here

In my old age I can't stand the cold any longer...

I just moved...In truth I sold my house 2 years ago...from Northern California...
A little damp wet cold (cold to me) town on the SF Bay where I was raised...

I settled last week in a little house in Arizona where it is warm (very fucking hot)
          most of the year...

So I'll fit right in here, today I gotta go buy cowboy boots and a big cowboy hat and
some other cowboy clothes, one of them big buckles I think, and one of them shirts
with fancy snaps and gun and a gun rack for my truck and a truck to put my gun
and gun rack in...And although I have a pretty tiny backyard, I'm thinking of buying a
          horse...What do ya'll think?

And I love it here so much, I'm heading back to Pattaya on the 31st for a few months...

Wanta rent a house in Arizona?

New England has been my first stop since returning from Thailand last week.  So far one week of rain, winds, floods, cold weather, sh*tty drivers, unfriendly people, bad food, bad roads, and bad hotels.  Other than that, it has been really great.

Nice move there Kahuna however, is this part of your master plan just to hoodwink the friends and relatives back in Northern California into thinking you are not being totally consumed by Pattaya and it's fringe benefits

I can't post anything new about ladyboys, I have only seen a handful in the flesh over the past 3 years or so;  you guys are the experts in that area so I will defer to you, these days I know much more about the topics in this room, sorry!
