Talking of weird German films-anyone seen the "Condom der grauen" -its about a killer condom murdering unsuspecting punters-its very funny(unusual for a german film i know)
Also the excellent german film"run lola run"(lola rennt)-with franka polenta as lola-

Best foreign films ?ANYONE SEEN-Jean de Florette and Manon de source?

    Oh yes. Unforgettable. Gerard Depardieu as the hunchback Jean de Florette with the beautiful Emmanuelle Beart as his daughter Manon.

Two of the greatest French movies of modern times. The bitter irony in the end when Jean is discovered to be the child of his persecutor (Yves Montand) is perfect.

Thanks for reminding me of this pair of classics. Recommended viewing to anyone who hasn't seen them.

Who could forget Emmanuelle Beart, my screensaver.. Both movies directed by Claude Berri who used to live opposite me.

My other classic is La Grande Bouffe. French decadence at its best

I seen Kick Ass the other night and it was fantastic. It got loads of 5 stars, even from The Times which very rarely give that many to a film, especially a comedy.

Its worth going to see in the cinema.

I have just watched BigBoy at Big C North Pattaya. 120 Baht per ticket.
This is a film about young kids doing some kind of dancing. The stuff where they they dive around all over the place. Stand on their hands and, spin on their heads. The main guy goes from a naff dancer to a top dancer thanks to the help of his Grandad. In fact, the Grandad also gets to do a bit of Tap Dancing and Ballroom dancing. Plus, he even has a 'Dance Battle' with the young kids. Sad in places. You might find yourself welling up! but, funny as well. I enjoyed the movie. Thai language with English Sub titles.
After, I found myself with the urge to try a few dance moves myself as we headed to Chester's Grill for lunch. My oldest had to reel me in. I asked him what was up. He asked me what I would do if I saw his Grandad (my dad) doing the same thing!!I have really not been the same since Sophon Cable lost the MNET contract. I really miss my daily dose of Ellen Degenerous.

Just a great film, in spite of sub-titles that at times were hard to pick up against a white background.

This Swedish thriller has twists & turns that you don't see coming with the "Girl" being the best anti-hero ever to grace the screen. (IMO)

I rate it better & more emotionally satisfying than Inglorious Basterds.

Now I read there is an American version being made though I hold little hope they will come close to this version.

The dildo scene would make Quentin proud... I bet he wishes he had thought of it himself.

I rarely watch an entire movie on an airplane, but a month back on my leg from Taipei to BKK I watched
a movie from beginning to end entitled The Invention of Lying with Ricky Gervais...Very very funny...

Can someone please post their review of Kick Ass. Very rarely does a film come along that so polarises audiences to either hate it or love it.

There seems to be a problem with the 11 yo girl "super hero" Hit Girl who swears & kills people in violent fashion.

Apparently she is a parody of standard super heroes & her role is meant to be deeply ironic.

This is a real change for an American production. I love the fact that most of the audience appear to get it.

And here's to all those "fans" who posted negative reviews on an Aussie website, then had the audacity to say they hadn't seen it.

Perhaps they were being ironic too...

Taegukgi hwinalrimyeo (A.K.A. The Brotherhood of war)

A movie about two brothers involved in the Korean war..
Better story and better battle scenes than Saving Private Ryan..
I usually watch epic Chinese Three Kingdom/Wuxia but this
is the best war movie i ever saw by a country mile.. Theme tunes class too.
