  • Brown defeats Coakley in Mass

Just to get the first word in before BB and other reich wingers start crowing about this unprecedented W for the GOP. This was a senate seat dominated by the Kennedy clan for over half a centuary and it is won by a republican state senator.

Is this a crippling blow to the Obama administration? Not sure. What it has done is eliminate the "filibuster proof" senate but......was it ever filibuster proff when you have flip flops like Lieberman and Snow? I don't think it was and I don't think this will stop the Health care from passing just maybe delay past the State of the Union address.

I think it also send a message that the Democratic party needs to get tougher and quit waffling and I think they will get this message. Keep in mind it is still 59-41 in the senate and a very large majority in the house. I also think that getting complacent like Coakley did with a 20 point lead. Also even though Massachusetts is a primarily blue state it really is almost as independent as blue and Brown did the right thing by soliciting the independent vote.

Also this little tidbit from the NY Times........a poll amongst voters found that they still support Obama even though they did not support or would vote for Coakley.

So as Obama did (something dumbass W would never have done) I congratulate Senator Brown for his accomplishment

It's good to King........no matter what the pay

Courage is being scared to death__and saddling up anyway

"Gentlemen and ladies, 'Those Who Stay Will Be Champions' is for you too. It's for every Michigan fan that's out there. When the going gets tough, you don't cut and run. It's not the Michigan way. If I heard it once from the old man, I heard it a thousand times -- when the going gets tough you find out who your real friends are, and that's why we must stay. Because there will be championships, and this staff and these kids will bring those championships here."

Tomorrow is another day and will be another fight. A pox on both their houses. The even bigger barometer will be the mid term elections in November. Lets face it, this is a stunning defeat for the Dems. just look at the number in Mass..

You know this is the all the Dems fault. Usually when a sittting Senator leaves office the states governor APPOINTS the new senator. A few years ago, Mass had a Repub gov.. Ted "The Duke of Chappiquidick" Kennedy thought it was a threat and wanted to keep the seat Dem. What did they do?? They changes the rules for a "special election" in the event of a sitting senator leaving. NOW, Mass. has a Dem gov.. Had they left things alone, the STILL would ahve had that seat!! To me thats justice.

Now I hear that some Dems want to change th rules overnight. Why because it would benefit THEM. Thats why I cannot take ANY of these clowns seriously. If it werent so serious, it would be hilarious.

I'm with you Smutley. I think it remains to be seen whether this is the "crippling blow to Obama's agenda" that the Reich Wingers are already proclaiming, I think it's more about the independents showing true independence and voting for the guy who fought the better fight.

For the most part, the Rebooblicans haven't shown any willingness to lead or have a vision, they are seen by my right wing and tea party friends as the party of No Way No How and Big Money Politics still, so I don't think this really benefits them in any real way.

I voted for change and am happy to have a little bit of change, but would welcome a true revolution in USA politics as long as it was accompanied by real thought, fairness and honesty (rather than bullshit rhetoric and more backroom deals as it continue to be).

More Al Frankens and fewer Joe Liebermans and we'll be allright again.

Its always much easier to be the minority party. The Dems were for quite a few years but now they have to step up to the plate and take their turn at bat. Its a lot easier sitting in the stands shouting where the next pass should go rather than being on the field and trying to get the job done....

I think it's awesome, because I'm a flag waving, racist, ignoramous from the deep south who is afraid of anybody that isn't white or christian.

Just kidding, I could care less.

Of course they would say this

This article is about our right to know, not about Martha Coakley or Scott Brown. And lest you think something here favors a Democrat, just you wait, I'm still working on anomalies in the NY-23 election that are just plain hard to 'splain. As Richard Hayes Phillips says when people tell him to forget it, "I'm a historian, I've got all the time in the world." NY-23 still has history to be written. My public records are starting to arrive. But that's another story.

Back to Massachusetts, I think you have a right to know that Coakley won the hand counts there. You can discuss this here:
            http://www.bbvforums.org/forums/messages/8/80830.html

            That's right.

According to preliminary media results by municipality, Democrat Martha Coakley won Massachusetts overall in its hand counted locations,* with 51.12% of the vote (32,247 hand counted votes) to Brown's 30,136, which garnered him 47.77% of hand counted votes. Margin: 3.35% lead for Coakley.

Massachusetts has 71 hand count locations, 91 ES&S locations, and 187 Diebold locations, with two I call the mystery municipalities (Northbridge and Milton) apparently using optical scanners, not sure what kind. .........

Whatever, as usual the dems snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. They deserve to lose.

Maybe one of you guys here that is more familiar with the subtleties of American politics can explain to me why it is that when the shrub was in office, when he had a majority in both houses he was bale to do whatever the fuck he wanted, but Obama with a similar majority can't seem to do shit.

I get the feeling that he's little more than just another "brand" put in place to placate the masses after the Bush debacles.

You seem you be under the impression that  Bush  received everything he wanted, he didn€™t.  It€™s just that there has been so much attention on Obama trying to get a health care bill passed in his first year and with 60 votes in the Senate they could have. There are  some democrats who are not happy with the health care bill as it is currently written. If democrats who had a voice in the process are not happy and won't support the final health care  bill, why would you expect a republican with no say in the process to be happy with it and support it. Democrats held up passing of the health care bill, not republicans.

I think the Mass results just show how elections could be preordained. The person wins who the power elite wants to win. As long as you got people voting using those Diebold contraptions and similar. there is little chance of an accurate will of the people deciding the outcome. Does anyone here really trust a vote count spewed out by a fucking Diebold machine?? Speak up now so I can call you a fool.

EVERY single vote nationwide should be cast on a paper ballot by hand and hand counted. That is the best way to assure fairness. Diebold machines should all be turned it scrap and the people who pushed this voting system on to the ignorant huddles masses should be all killed.

I am impressed this has not gone completely unnoticed. So what did the dems get done when they had complete control of the house, senate, and presidency? Spend more money, increase war spending, blow a hole in the deficit, and give gay rights lip service. If I didn't know any better that sounds very GWB. In't there a difference between the parties?

There is only one party in the US. The Republicrats. Or maybe the Democans.
