Britain got involved in the war in Iraq and Afghanistan for the same reason as Australia. The US saved our arse in WW2 and without them we would have suffered greatly. This doesn't excuse the rampant imperialism on the US's part but does show that the UK and Oz are puppets playing along to the tune of the US.
However, a true friend would tell his mate when he is making a grave mistake. Blair and Howard are just as guilty for this mess as Bush.

My problem with Fox is that they are blind imperialists who perpetuate a climate of fear on the American people so that corporations can go make money & fuck up the world in the process. America might have lots of diversity in it's population but the enlightened ones have been mighty quiet.

    • The USA certainly has more freedom is one sense that Fox News exists as a biased Right Wing station. We dont have that in Europe.
Yes we do. Sky News is just like watching a watered down Fox.

(smuttleydfs @ Feb. 11 2010,05:56) First of all Guy after re-reading my post I couldn't find anywhere where I claimed dumbass dubya could think for himself.

Then  you contradict yourself and make statements that literally make no sense. Believe me I am the very last person to show dumbass dubya any support but how can the GOP disown him ...

So if your intention is to bash american politics...
"I'd even take dumbass dubya over Tony Blair, at least he can think for himself. "

Somehow this line gave me that impression
OK Guy I will give you the "think for himself" statement I guess I "mis-remembered" on that one. But yet you still haven't justified your contradictions so the "peashooter" is still in play

(smuttleydfs @ Feb. 11 2010,06:07) Oh and sorry but to claim Blair is "smart" and then he lets a moron like Bush lead him into a needless war under false pretenses shows me you have a completely different definition of "smart" then I do. Seems to have some "sheeplike" qualities if you ask me.
I believe Blair's reason for joining the war on Iraq was to with certain things-
              (a) He actually believed Saddam was a long term obstacle to a middle east peace initiative
(B)He wanted to have a legacy and be remembered as a war time prime minister(like thatcher)
© He thought it good long term policy to back America in whatever adventurism it entered into
(d)he thought the war would last 3 weeks, and he would be looked upon as a hero, comlete with fotos of WMD stockpiles etc
(e)He thought collaborating with USA would help British Oil companies when they divvied up the spoils of war...
.Lots of reasons IMO....I also think he was seduced by the halls of power in Washington Dc,and lauded by a fawning US media ,who actually recognized an articulate and competent leader as compared to their own intellectually challenged and inarticulate POTUS.
He certainly wasnt outsmarted by George Bush,or led by the nose as you said.He knew exactly what he was doing.

As much as i despise Blair for the war, even his enemies admire his intellect and political savvy.

Even Bush's friends cannot say that.
Sorry travis but your reasoning behind blair's following dumbass dubya like a lamb to slaughter are to say the least ill concieved and to say the most fantasy and to say he knew "exactly what he was doing" in one sentence and then claim people admire his "intellect and political savvay is what as known as an oxymoron.

As far as dumbass dubya's intellect is concerned as much as I despise the moron he was intelligent enough to hoodwink the majority of the american public......the second time around (remember he was "awarded" the first term by the supremes) that has to mean something. Besides seeing as who the quality of his friends they do probably all think he is a blooming genius

As far as your slam on Joe the Plumber's 15 minutes of fame and what country "allows these sort of things" that in itself is a prime example of what makes the USA so great, it allows the average Joe the opportunity to air and voice their opinions. Tell me if other countries and their citizens don't wish they had the same freedoms.

              • Good post Pacman although generalizing all americans as worrying about being "Political correct" is too much of a blanket statement. Other then that good points but I seriously doubt you would ever hear Colin Powell make any statements about 9/11 and he would never reveal any inside information.

As to the "dreadful poverty" I have seen as much or more in Asian countries and Central and South America that is completely by the government. In fact most of the poverty stricken in Panama in particular would love to have it as easy as the poverty stricken in the US

It is interesting to see, after looking through your posting history in this thread as well as throughout the whole forum, that you are only ever able to come up with hollow one-liners. I've agreed with most of your points made on this forum so far but your last couple are a stretch at best. After viewing the Joe the Plumber clip I could not see how you could defend this guy's right to air time. He made a statement and then couldn't back it up. When Shepard asked him how he came to his conclusions he said that he "couldn't answer that" and asked for the viewers to do their own investigating. This is a total cop-out on Joe's part and he lost a lot of credibility when he said this.

Also, trying to compare the poverty that exists in America to that of second and third world countries is lame. The US not a second or third world country, in fact it is the world's richest.
Try comparing America's poverty to that of other first world nations to get a clearer perspective of the inequity that exists.

I did worry after I posted that I was making sweeping generalisations about a very diverse population. I hoped my line about US citizens being "diverse, eclectic & paradoxical" gave me some wriggle room but I know that many Americans despise the loss of intellectual freedom foisted on them by political correctness.

In regards poverty, I did single out the West. I have seen a lot of 3rd world poverty. We also have poverty here in Oz but here, the poorest of the poor has full medical cover, welfare benefits paid for the duration of their life, public housing available for families with children, & were it not for the inflow of illegal refugees, accommodation would eventually be provided to anyone homeless. Most long term homeless here in Oz have been shown to be mentally unwell & have chosen that lifestyle.

Lastly, don't give up on Colin or someone connected, to one day clean their slate with a tell-all confession. I am sure there must be a few who live with regret about what they know. It may take years but I am betting we haven't heard the last of this.
Despite the high cost of living, it continues to be popular.

Again, no contradiction. My first post was referring to Blair being disowned by his Labor Party, as I have already indicated in my reply.

Your saying that Britain and Australia went to war in Iraq and Afghanistan because of WW2. Something as stupid as that does not require a well detailed rebuttle as it is simply retarded.

Care to explain in detail your wild comments about why Britain and Australia went to war? WW2 you say?

All your doing is just having a personal attack on someone who disagrees with your stupid comments and since when is it your job to judge whether someone contributes enough to this forum or not? Your insinuating that I have never posted pics or trip report on the forum? Did you even check before posting that?

I mispelled something in this post on purpose just so you can give us all one of your fantastic rebuttals that avoids answering any questions asked and just comments on my spelling.

You don't remeber Obama struggling to fill his administration becuase of all the tax cheats. Both sides of politics have a terrible record of failing to pay taxes, which is hypocracy to the extreme seeing as they set the taxes. And btw, searching through the Forum and judging/analysing people's posts for ammunition in some other thread reminds me of a certain recently departed member.Let's hope the PM's don't start coming... Anyone who does that simply shows they are bearing a grudge, rather than participating in a discussion. To see how some people don't even read the posts but are instead blinded by the defence of their own position in the face of seeming attack...well it's breath taking...

Attack the argument, not the man ! And if you do want to attack the man, at least get the facts straight. So few ever do.

Obviously in politics people will hold diverging views. The 'gentlemanly' way is called 'let's agree to disagree'. No need to make it or take it personal
