This what I've been saying. Unfortunately, this is a country that is largely populated by retards who are not only ignorant, but they actually PRIDE themselves for things normally sentient people would prefer to downplay. For example: not having a passport, only speaking English, never reading a book, being fat, driving big stupid cars, watching Faux "News", never going to college, having no knowledge of history, geography or other cultures, etc.

Regardless of the instances that you have arbitrarily pointed Travis lets not forget that without America and the US all you "blokes", frogs, etc in Europe would be speaking German now and all of Asia would be making messed up Toyotas and speaking Japanese

So consider that for a minute and I'd even take dumbass dubya over Tony Blair, at least he can think for himself.

So you don't agree with Michael Moore. I thought he put up excellent arguments against Bush in Fahrenheit 9/11 as well as uncovered the misery of of America's health care system in Sicko. Maybe you think that he is a socialist but that's only a label. In Australia we don't have that label because the system is geared towards helping people and not corporations making money hand over fist. Do a search on our Pharmaceuticals Benefits Scheme to see what I'm talking about.

Also, the usual"we'd all be speaking german etc" is of course nonsense.The Estonians were occupied by the Russians for 70 years,but they are still speaking Estonian,like wise the Latvians,Lithuanians,Poles ,Ukranians,Czechs etc etc-they are still speaking their own languages.
The 2nd world war could not have been won without America,we all know that,but that generation of politicians were significantly smarter than todays.(weren't they?I have a feeling the population weren't as dumbed down either.
 PS-On a personal level,Americans are as nice a bunch of people as one could wish to meet-I just wonder how they cannot see thru the likes of Bush and Palin.

It is pointless to make a blanket statement like "where else would these people hold office" when I could through the history of every country in the world and point out where their leaders were complete and total jokes. Instead if you want to compare leaders of different countries past and present like quarterbacks in the NFL or soccer stars of arsenal or man u then I'm afraid you and whichever country you are backing would be in for a losing battle in comparison to the good ole US of A

And the reason the US ends up with psychos like dumbass dubya and Palin is because the US is by far the most diverse country in the world. I have lived in Europe, Asia,  and all three Americas and there is literally no comparison be it god or bad. And that in my humble opinion is a very very good thing

Oh and sorry but to claim Blair is "smart" and then he lets a moron like Bush lead him into a needless war under false pretenses shows me you have a completely different definition of "smart" then I do. Seems to have some "sheeplike" qualities if you ask me.

I think the point he was making was that the U.S. seems to have some thing for electing IDIOTS! Now idiots are their own flavor of bad, but a person can be a lousy politician and not be a brain dead doofus, like the shrub, raygun and the moose knuckle beeaaatch.

I would also like to add, for the record, that despite my posts expressing disparaging opinions about Americans, I do not think that ALL Americans are cognitively challenged, fascist tools; I am, after all, an American myself, as are most of the people that I love and care about in this world. Er, I was referring to the Labor Party disowning Blair...no contradiction.

Who's bashing US politics ? It's the biggest game in town. My comments were limited to Blair and contrasting his approach with that of GW. I used the word 'articulate'. Something I'm quite sure we will rarely see appear in the same sentence as GW.
I'm not on anybody's bandwagon. Besides, criticising Bush and his cronies never made anyone unpatriotic.

America is unlike any country on earth. And Americans are cut from a different cloth than their English, European & Australian counterparts.

I find them charming & polite to a fault but almost crippled by political correctness. I admire their patriotism but dislike their xenophobia.

Their polite nature translates to wonderful hospitality to complete strangers that I have been on the receiving end of several times.

Yet they seem oblivious to the dreadful poverty in the US that would be labelled a national disgrace in most other western countries.

They are diverse, eclectic & paradoxical. They remind me of the great love of my life - we can't live with them & we can't live without them.

The political process in the US has been captured by the giant corporations & banks who need a malleable leader to do their bidding without thinking too much.

Did George W really dream up the idea of attacking Iraq himself? I think he was cleverly manipulated into it & his christian values convinced him he was doing God's work. How scary is that?

And Tony Blair going along for the ride? For an Oxford graduate who was trained to be the complete political animal, that decision is going to haunt him for the rest of his life. For a smart guy, he knows he was conned. What was the quid pro quo?

I believe we will get the full story of post 9/11 but it will only come from those who were inside the process at the time, from guys like Colin Powell. But he must wait till the neo-con influence can't come after him or else he will finish up another casualty.

I believe Blair's reason for joining the war on Iraq was to with certain things-
(a) He actually believed Saddam was a long term obstacle to a middle east peace initiative
(B)He wanted to have a legacy and be remembered as a war time prime minister(like thatcher)
© He thought it good long term policy to back America in whatever adventurism it entered into
(d)he thought the war would last 3 weeks,and he would be looked upon as a hero,comlete with fotos of WMD stockpiles etc
(e)He thought collaborating with USA would help British Oil companies when they divvied up the spoils of war...
.Lots of reasons IMO....I also think he was seduced by the halls of power in Washington Dc,and lauded by a fawning US media ,who actually recognized an articulate and competent leader as compared to their own intellectually challenged and inarticulate POTUS.
He certainly wasnt outsmarted by George Bush,or led by the nose as you said.He knew exactly what he was doing.

As much as i despise Blair for the war,even his enemies admire his intellect and political savvy.

Even Bush's friends cannot say that.

The USA certainly has more freedom is one sense that Fox News exists as a biased Right Wing station. We dont have that in Europe. Internet TV will change all that within 5 years ...
