I have heard that Saddam wanted to replace the dollar theory before-and I believe it holds water.The big danger in that is that if everyone followed suit,then the dollar would no longer be the number 1 currency,and would go into freefall.No American administration would tolerate that.I have also heard Ahmedinajad in Iran is threatening the same thing.Woe betide him if he does.
I believe the real reason was to steal the oil.Americas great "friend"in the area ,Israel,also agitated for regime change through its massive lobby in the Usa.Saddam was a huge thorn in their side ,as he paid the families of Palestinian suicide bombers$25000 for every sucessfull mission.Incidentally,one of the first actions by the Americans was to turn back on a oil pipeline from Iraq to Israel,turned off years previously by Saddam.
The wmd's was a complete smokescreen.Even if they existed,how was he going to deliver these weapons?Remember the scud missiles in the first gulf war?He could not even hit Tel Aviv !
The millions to be made by US companies-Haliburton et al,was another incentive.Why else would the utilities and infrastructure be completely destroyed,if not to create huge inflated profits for these said companies,and of course all payments were guaranteed because the OIL paid for everything.It was a win win situation.
What I would like to know...What did Bush promise Blair to make him join in such a disastrous war?Over 60% of the uk population didnt want it,even with all the wmd mantras on the tv all the time.What did the US administration say to the UK attorney general Lord Goldsmith,to make him declare the war"legal" after a previous 27 different uk lawyers had declared it "illegal"

You forgot that they are also the magic underwear people. They also believe that if you can look up and find your ancestors through some kind of a genealogical search you can posthumously convert them to moronism and get them into a better heaven. They also believe that Native Americans are a lost tribe of Israel and that Jesus came to preach the gospel to them before the arrival of Europeans to the Americas.
Makes perfect sense to me!

I like the fact that we have both right and left represented here,and the fact that guys like the Chef and Blue Ballz hold their ground on their positions and viewpoints; if we all were left or right and just agreed all the time this place would be lame.

As long as people make an intelligent argument for their position I say all are welcome and make this place more interesting, whether they watch FOX or MSNBC, or listen to Rush or Al Franken or are somewhere in between; informed people are what makes this part of the board so fun to read.

You're right, just watching a news channel does not mean you are retarded. However, believing the fascist propaganda coming out of Faux "News" is an indication to me that there is something seriously wrong with your ability to think, let alone to think critically.
This should be considered in the context of a few recent polls showing that, a.) Faux "News" as the highest rated cable news network in the U.S. , and b.) That they are the "most trusted" news outlet by people who watch cable news, or something like that.
This is frightening to some of us here, (yes, Mr. Blonde Havoc, people like me), because it indicates that the attitudes being espoused by Murdoch's minions are finding a large sympathetic audience (read knuckle-dragging mouth-breathers) in this country.  

You know, these guys.
