I just don't watch the news anymore; it puts me in a bad mood so why bother?

The cable stations are a joke, especially MSNBC and the Fox comedy network.

CNN is the best one out there, but even THEY bore me and the news is always bad.

If that poll is correct, all those people are being told lies by the Fox Republican Party and actually believing 'em ...doesn't that tell you all you need to know about America?

Well, I know I'm going to be hated because as I will defend Bush, at least to a certain degree. And I cannot deny that he made a number of mistakes. But at least he believed basic American ideals and kept America safe.

The problem with Obama is he doesn't care. He is so caught up in tranforming America into a socialist state that he ignores the unemployed and the suffering in America. The majority of Americans in poll after poll feel the country is going in the wrong direction and recently the most liberal of states voted in a Republican to a guarenteed Democratic seat - only becuase people are so pissed off that Obama is ignoring the voice of the people.

He has surrounded himself with corporate flunkies like Guithner who was neck deep in Wall Street corruption. He has also surrounded himself with special advisors or "czars" who openly admit that they do not admire Pres. Washington or Lincoln - instead they are ardent admirers of Mao, Castro, Pohl Pot, Che Guevara and Chavez - yea mass murderers. They make Hitler seem like an up start. This crowd has taken over the Democratic Party in much the same way the Religious right practically destroyed the Republican Party. Obama has completely closed the doors on the public and has been caught making dirty secret deals with the drug companies, unions and banks. I can't remember ever seeing a politician lie so much in my life.

This is the problem with a 2 Party system. These crazy fringe groups should start their own political parties. Well, i should stop. Because I'lll probably end up getting picked up tonight by Obama's armed militia group and thrown into a boxcar and I'll forced to built my own gulag in Oregon (just like Stalin did to his enemies).

And any way Palin is so hot

Your dreaming if you think Bush 2 gave a fck about "the unemployed and the suffering in America". How did he keep "America safe"? Americans have never been under so much threat OUTSIDE the USA due to the actions of Bush 2, and inside the USA your quaking under all the security theatre. Obama surrounded by all the same people as Bush 2 in case you haven't noticed. No change. Bush 2 as "commander in chief" DIRECTLY responsible for the death of over a million people, making him one of the biggest mass murderers of the 21st century. "Making dirty secret deals with the drug companies, unions and banks", you mean same same Bush 2? Keep drinking the Kool aid.

(tscrazy @ Jan. 29 2010,06:43) The problem with Obama is he doesn't care. :

And any way Palin is so hot
Not so sure that he doesn't care....I think his heart is in the right place and he would like to see America succeed, but after 1 year of watching him I do believe he is in over his head.   Me thinks he was running in 2008 as a warm-up for 2012 or 2016; when he actually WON, I think he surprised even himself and is now wondering why he was so willing to step into the hardest job on earth.

I also think he has wasted this last full year dealing pretty much only with health care....damn does that topic make me nauseous ..... and neglecting other areas, including the economy; his recent restrictions on the banks threw yet another monkey wrench into the situation getting better anytime soon.  By sending more troops to the dark side of the moon, AKA Afghanistan, he has also upset his main base, the left-wingers who elected him to get us OUT of those 2 crapholes over there.

Bush 2 was far and away the worst president in my lifetime, maybe ever; so while not missing him one bit, I am not  yet impressed with this new guy at all, and he has a lot of work still to do.

Sarah *is* a hottie.......for a 45-year old, ex-wife-looking, stewardess-type glamour girl, I can understand her appeal to the masses;  she looks good on TV and in the USA that's super-important;  watch 'The Candidate' with Robert Redford to understand more about what Yanks want....uggghhh.  I am quite sure if she looked like Susan Boyle she would still just be governer of Alaska and except for the 700,000 hicks who live in that ice box no one would have ever heard of her.

She owes John McCain a huge debt of gratitude!!

Sometimes people who hate Bush really go insane and loose all sense of logic and perscpective. "directly responsible for the death of millions" is such a crazy and indefensible comment. Sure Stalin, Hitler and Mao directly gave orders to subordinates to commit mass murder. It was a corner stone of their policy. A President starting a war is not "directly" killing people. We have had only a few directly killed people, because they served in the military such as Washington, Grant, Eisehower, and Jackson. Please learn what the owrd "directly" actually means.

I wish these Bush haters would have some grasp of real history (or for that matter fairness). Was it not Woodrow Wilson who got the U.S. into WWI and another democrat, FDR who got us into WWII ? The death toll in just Americans in the view days of the Normandy landings far surpasses the total number we have seen to date from Afghanistan and Iraq (both civilian and military) put together. BTW - who got the U.S. into Vietnam? More democrats. And who got the U.S. into the Korean War ? Sure another democrat, Truman. The losses sufferred by both Iraqis, Afghanis and Americans due to Bush's actions so completely pales in comparison to any of these wars. So if you want to appear sort of sane and sort of fairminded; I would hope you would call all of those democrats mass murderers too.

And thank God for the reason victory of Brown. All of a sudden all these slimy phony democrats (like Gov Patterson, Sen. Shumer and Mayor Bloomberg) are coming out of the woodwork against Obama's policy on Gitmo and civilian trials of terrorists NYC. This morning Obama's changed his again. His administration has been a total failure on national secuirty. In just the last few months it was not I.C.E. or the FBI nor HomeSecurity that foisted 2 serious attacks. But it was a Dutch citizen and on another flight it was a group of passengers. So much for Obama's wonderful policies.

                  And to respond to JaiDee:

While I said Palin is hot. I in no way said she should be President or that she is even qualified. Nor do I believe that Obama was ever qualified or Hillary Clinton. Although now Hillary finally has some real experience as Sectretary of State. Hopefully she will run against that affirmative action baby who was a product of the corrupt Chicago political machine.

By your use of the word "Yank" I may be wrong, but I assume you are a Brit? Any way Margaret Thatcher was as ugly as they come but she was one of Britains best leaders. So looks has nothing to do with anything.

BTW - McCain was always a sell out and a phony. Up until the campaign the guys ' career was moslty as a liberal Reublican and he almost jumped to the Democratic Party a decade ago. But during the campaign the fool lied to people by portraying himself as a conservative. He deserved to lose for being disengenuous. And the fact is that prior to him picking Palin as his running mate, most Repubicans did not trust him and he was gathering only 10% of the donations, supporters and crowds that he was able to get after picking Plain. I still think she was a fool for accepting McCain's invitation and she should have stayed as Governer.

Your revisionist version of history is to say the least strange and to say the most moronic............

According to your views Wilson ran hellbent into WWI when in actuallity he did everything in his power to avoid the war despite former (republican) President Teddy Rosevelt pusing hard for the US to get involved and actually was re-elected based on his opposition. But of course I'm sure Glenn Beck told you otherwise or may Pat Robertson

Now I suppose FDR should have just congratulated the japanese empire on their tactial expertise in bombing Pearl Harbor which is exactly what his opponent Wendell Wilkie would have done

As to Vietnam Dwight Eisenhower (remember him famous republican) first sent advisors to Nam and the first americans to die there were under his watch

Change the channel crazy or read a book because your history lesson is severely lacking and pretty comical

(tscrazy @ Jan. 31 2010,01:09) and another democrat, FDR who got us into WWII ?
I was under the impression it was the Japanese who got us into that war by bombing our territory and declaring war; we were taking a pacifist approach in regards to Europe up until that time, would you prefer FDR had just thrown up his hands and surrendered?

I'd be typing this in Japanese now if that were the case.

I wouldn't say TScrazy is crazy, he makes good points and just has an opposite take than some of the lefties or moderates here; and again, that is GOOD for a message board like this, to have dissenting opinions.

But let me ask you something; can we finally get the final word, the final reason, to why we invaded Iraq? they had absolutely nothing to do with 9/11, that has been proven, and the original reason {that they were hiding WMD's} has now been shown not to be the case, he had none. So then the Bush crew changed their reasons almost monthly; nation-building, making a democracy, to remove a tyrant, blah blah blah.....all bullshit reasons to cover up the fact we made a massive mistake in going in there when we had no right to.

If we had to go into every country which had a tyrant in charge we would be at war all over the globe; starting with North Korea......they are certainly more of a threat than Iraq ever was.

That sub-100-IQ clown from Texas certainly has blood on his hands; I wouldn't lump him in with Pol Pot and Stalin of course, but his actions to help his buddies in the oil business and Haliburton has destroyed thousands of families in both countries for no good reason at all.

BTW I am a Yank myself, not British, born and raised in the northeast.

The real reason why Saddam had to be removed? Why the US invaded at massive cost & unsettled the peace & security of the Middle East?

Saddam had told the US he wasn't going to accept payment for oil in US dollars. If he had his way & the idea caught on with the other oil producing states that they would support the Euro as well, the US dollar would have soon collapsed bringing down the entire US banking system.

Saddam had to be made a public example of. His hatred for the US could be tolerated but once he started to dictate terms for payment for oil, he had to go.

When the interim government was installed in Iraq, the US became their de facto ruler. It was purely good luck & dilligence by the acting leader & a few of his staff who spotted the contract hidden amongst 1000 pages of "instructions" from the US that signed over future rights for all of Iraq's oil fields to the US for posterity.

The ironic part of all this is that the US dollar today is defying gravity & will inevitably collapse anyway. I believe this is the Federal Reserve's solution to America's impossible debt load, simply inflate it away.

No US citizen need panic though, a new currency is already established. Google Amero. 800 million Ameros have already been sent to China to keep them from finishing the dollar off before time. The rest of the world will be left with worthless Treasury Bonds & will just have to carry the debt.

Any nation who dares complain will find a US aircraft carrier parked off their coast armed with 100's of nuclear weapons. What are they going to do about it? Whistle Dixie I guess...
Despite the high cost of living, it continues to be popular.

I don't understand why it matters which currency is used to price oil.

Since one can readily trade all major currencies, if it were priced in Euros or Swiss Francs, the oil still costs the same in real terms, right?

If Middle Easterners don't like dollars they can turn them into Yen or Pounds or whatever.

Not sure if it's been getting coverage anywhere else but Tony Blair has been in front of the British inquiry into the war this week. Trying to sumarise his argument it's basically after 9/11 it was no longer acceptable to allow terrorists access to WMD's as they have no restraint as witnessed at the twin towers. Since Saddam supposedly had lots (remember the Chinese and the Russians who were dead set against the war thought he had them, as did the Germans and the French) he had to go. Wether you believe it or not I suppose it's up to you but I very much doubt this inquiry will find the real reasons for the war, and I think it's a lot more complicated than all the conspiracy theorists have made up.

Hmmm, I am not an economist but I will have a go at explaining it.

The US dollar is a fiat currency, i.e. there is nothing tangible backing it. The Bretton Woods Agreement that made the US dollar the World's reserve currency gave the dollar an enormous advantage.

Once the dollar came under pressure as the US current account grew, as less countries sought the safety of US Bonds, as there was a gradual movement to divesify dollar holdings, the one thing that continued to underpin the exchange rate of the dollar & maintain the US living standard was the role played by the US dollar as the de facto world currency for all global trade.

What Saddam was proposing was nothing less than the start of the end for Bretton Woods. Oil payments total billions of dollars every month & if the Arab states demanded payment in another currency, the US dollar was toast.

This is not my original theory by the way, the threat to the US dollar has been mentioned by many scholars as to why Saddam was deemed an unacceptable risk to US interests. George W would have been villified far worse if he had allowed Saddam to get away with it.
Despite the high cost of living, it continues to be popular.
