Thanks for the replies - I'll try some of these in January. Probably not the water since this seems to me rather like having a sign above my head saying "Cheapskate", but the others are worth a go.

It's funny that some people feel that way. It's not true at all though. I even knew someone who would lie to the girls that he was drinking gin and tonic when he ordered water. Little did he know the glass they give for water is different than for alcohol, oops. Ordering water will probably gain you more respect from the bar and the girls. It shows you aren't just there for the beer and many girls prefer someone sober. Remember they don't care how much you spend on your drinks, but how much you spend on them.

I can't drink large quantities either, and I also do not like sweet drinks.
I go with club soda on ice with a twist of lime.

Never seen J2O's in LOS now they would be a nice refreshing alternative to beer. But good old orange & lemonade always hits the spot, but two half pints is enough for any man !

More respect from the bar and the "girls" ...I doubt that is true...And while the LB might prefer you to be sober, many LBs prefer to be drunk themselves...

BTW...When I don't want alcohol, I mostly drink Coke Lite...Sometimes orange juice...

About water, remember what W.C. Fields told us,  "I never drink water, fish fuck in it."
