(dixon cox @ Dec. 18 2009,03:36) Unions should be outlawed, the people that operate them are parasites.
So what would be your Ideal situation then? Workers being exploited over pay, Hours and conditions? Maybe bring back the workhouses and send the kids up the chimneys?
Fucking Wanker!
It's never okay for men to cry! You know who cries? Girls. And little babies. And little baby girls.
excatly, there has become a culture of comfortable in "their" job and too much taking, not enough work being done by many workers becoming unproductive, skiving off and generally not giving a shite.while i understand and support some of mister smiths argument about the union standing for its workers, workers must be protected but that must not allow them to abuse and ruin business.
the culture of paid holidays paid pensions paid perks paid canteen etc etc...........it all feckin cost someone...........
in my opinion paid holidays leave should be cut down so should other business subsidies to workers.
I work for myself and on occasions need to employ others no one pays me for time i take off or my pension or perks etc,i work very hard at what i do ....wanna know why? because no other fecker is going to hold my hand or pay for my holiday so i put a lot into my business.........incentive incentive, take them away you have nothing.
same apllies from bankers to ground staff pay someone too much why the fuck should they put in anymore than bare minimum if that.
i know a guy here who works for the NHS he gets 5 weeks paid holiday minimum subs pension and full pay when off sick,in his case 6 months so far.........fuckin disgrace.........wanna know where all the money goes in the uk..........pissed up against the wall.
get people to feckin work for a living its not about workhouse its about earning your money end of!
(PigDogg @ Dec. 18 2009,17:07) The way I see it, unions protect the average Joe, so that he has enough money to feed his family. The real exploiters are corporate executives who's hefty bonuses are granted by their asshole buddies on the board of directors and justified by employee benefit consultants that'll be fired if they don't play ball.
I used to buy the odd bottle of vintage VC champagne off a friend of mine who used to be a BA flight attendant.....it was the same stuff being served up in the club class cabin.
I always assumed that she had purchased it by legitimate means duty free perhaps staff discount or even a perk of the job
i worked in a factory for 21 years and was a member of amicus union for 21 years paying £10 a month and the union showed its face once a year in their brand new cars to drum up more members and to put up membership fees every year .
last year i was made redundant and the union did not show its face.
i now work in a job with no union and i get on fine with management and i am still protected by e.u. laws.
unions at the start were a good idea and have in the past improved conditions for workers but they are now a expensive dinosaur ran by crooks
There was a need to have representation for uneducated (and often illiterate workers). In the modern age they have become a pariah. Collective bargaining just results in carrying 'employees who do not perform'.
Grades are set and, all in that grade, paid accordingly.
Most modern companies pay on a performance based regime.
This also becomes abused as well amplified by the banking debacle in the US and in Europe - annual bonuses equal to more than many a person's earnings in a lifetime. Take your salry at about age 40 and multiply by 30 - this is approximately your total earnings in your LIFETIME.
The BA saga s sad. A flagship carrier that employs 'career' trolley Dollys. Very 'Mumsy'. So all these employees are entitled to a pension plan that the company can ill afford. Many companies/industries have experienced this pain due to change - grow up people this is a competitive world with competitive companies.
Imagine you are a small company and have under employed, or under performing, employees - would you just pay up?
BA Cabin staff (Separate union to Pilots) work less than 25 hours per week and get to be accommodated in excellent hotels on their days off when abroad. I have little empathy for the long haul staff as they also receive a bounty for each flight. I do sympathise with the short haul staff - Inter Europe flights.
They do have a choice - be individually greedy (under collective bargaining) or just allow the company to diminish in stature and perhaps cease to exist altogether - insane.
I worked in an industry that was 'boom and bust' - many times I was rightsized/laid off/ redundant - I still continued in the industry and was pleased to do so for most of my working life. I just accepted that staffing would be reduced in difficult times.
The union, and staff, are living in a period long gone. IF a company cannot make a profit it will cease - up to you. Short term gain for some but long term loss for all.
BA lost its flag carrying status years ago - newer/leaner/sleeker airlines came to the fore and showed how a modern airline should operate. Sad
Ain't it funny how the people at the bottom rung of the ladder get pay cuts and worse working conditions while those at the top still get the bonus even when the company is losing money .........
And some here complain when the workers fight back , maybe too many here have it a little too easy and never had to fight for themselves .
Well said Jim, I hope all the people on this thread who are cheering the courts ruling remember this day when their employers decide to change the terms of their contracts.
It's never okay for men to cry! You know who cries? Girls. And little babies. And little baby girls.
I do have strong opinions as I am a trolley dolly for a large airlines here in the US. The BA Crew are just trying to protect their jobs. The company wanted to decrease staffing. That would lead to job losses and, effectively, be a pay cut. I hvae no idea how BA's management behave but if its anything like their bretheren in the USA (especially at MY company) they almost deserve to get cancer and die-almost. My company abolished its pension, we took a 40% pay cut, they changed some work rules, and the staffing levels are down to the bare bone. All this has happened while the management who have run us into the ground get big fat bonuses, keep THEIR pensions, keep their perks, and are living high one the hog. OUr contract expires in Jan. but, when it does, we just cannot go on strike. No no no we have to wait probably YEARS do to so.
Afetr 9-11 we took TWO ROUNDS of VOLUNTAY pay cuts. Our illustrious management said, "We have to share sacrifices and then share rewards." YEAH RIGHT see above for what they actually DID. They talked a good game but the front line (often low paid) employees took the punches.
Someone said basically, "If you dont like the conditions, leave." Thats what I will eventually be doing. But if I have the chance to burn the place down on my way out, I would LOVE to. I am going to milk my situation for as long as I can. Because of my union, I would have to kill some one to get sacked and man am I going to manipulate that system to m advantage.
Someone also mentioned how the crews look. Well, if you had to be good looking and fit in able to have a job, 98% on this board wouldnt have jobs. Believe me I ahve met quite a few of you!!!
I am not certain how it is in Europe but it costs about the SAME as it does to fly now than it did 25 years ago. Think about that. Also people bitch about "service". Think about this factiod-we are flying just as many people NOW than we did 5 years ago with HALF the employees!!! Think about it.
I have my beef with our union and some unions in general. But, where I work, I would rather have one than not. Southwest is a very heavily unionised company yet they have made consistent profits over the years when everyone else is losing lots of money. Their frontline workers make more than the average. Their ex CEO said basically, "Take care of your frontline workers and they will take care of the customer." Coinkeedink?? I think not. What a novel concept.
(anthony70 @ Dec. 18 2009,16:15) years ago, you had to be atractive to get a job on the airlines.
not so the case in britain anymore.
now they take on any old lard arse with bad skin.
So says the guy who needs to fly to the other side of the world to buy his sex
