ive got to agree with you here,seems like yet another bunch of british workers have their brains up their arse,e.g your company is virtually bankrupt but is doing its best to keep going amid a world recession,some cost cutting measures are not an option but needed,so your looking for the support from your workers to pull together,make sacrifices if needed in the short term,in the hope of saving their jobs and the business.
so what do your workers do?...they decide to make matters worse ,call a general strike where the business will lose many millions of pounds in a matter of weeks pretty much bringing the company to its knees,end result no jobs for anybody.

A crippled BA will never be the same again after this idiotic attempt to hold the company to ransom by their dumbass employees.

With every major airline positioning themselves to cannibalize BA's routes & customers, a 12 day strike with a million pissed-off passengers will be long enough to ensure their goodwill is crushed.

Someone should tell these morons that BA's pension fund stands at 3.5 billion pounds, COMPLETELY UNFUNDED!!

In other words, not only are they giving up a job at a time when other airlines aren't hiring, they won't be getting any pension benefits.

Of course, all these employees will firmly believe that their socialist government will bail them out & they will all be better off.

I hope that the British Govt follows the lead of the Australian Govt back in the 80's when a pilot strike by Ansett Airlines, one of our two major carriers, bought the company to its knees.

The Govt refused to entertain their demands for higher wages & COMPLETELY FUCKED THE PILOTS, THE REST OF THE STAFF & THE COMPANY ITSELF!!

Most of the pilots never worked as pilots again, certainly not in Australia, the corpse of Ansett was sold off & eventually collapsed owing 1000's of staff most of their benefits.

And that was the Australian Labour Party, not our Conservative Party equivalent. If only the British Labor Party have the same amount of spine.

We are in changing times so far as airlines are concerned and the BA board are simply tying to cut costs in order to compete on the euro routes with the likes of Easy Jet and Ryan Air also the emerging Arab carriers to the middle east and beyond.

The way I see it, unions protect the average Joe, so that he has enough money to feed his family. The real exploiters are corporate executives who's hefty bonuses are granted by their asshole buddies on the board of directors and justified by employee benefit consultants that'll be fired if they don't play ball.

There'll be plenty more of this unrest coming soon ... Europe-wide if not world-wide.  As businesses/nations adapt to the new order, workers/unions will carry on getting angry.  UK Royal Mail is another company with a protected workforce, a pensions problem, a market that has changed radically since 1990, and a union trying to bring the business to its knees.

Just wait til the pay freeze in the UK public sector, and the eventual effort (probably about 2020?) to tackle public sector pensions.   By then, of course, BA will be in the hands of Etihad (or RyanAir!)

I refuse to travel with BA anymore having been treated with scant courtesy once too often

Ditto Virgin whose corporate name presumably comes from the fact that all of them from their toothy chairman down need a good fucking

Of the European airlines, KLM is about the best then you move up into the premier league with Emirates, Singapore Airlines, Royal Thai and Cathay Pacific. I have never travelled with Quantas or any US carriers and am trying to forget Lagos to Abidjan with Nigerian Airlines!!

Biggest surprise for me a few years ago was the Peruvian internal airline which I approached with trepidation and was treated to very pleasant experience.
