I intended not to post for a while but this concerns us all:

Thai Govt' blocks CNN, Yahoo finance, Facebook, Flickr and other American sites
Thai Immigration website reported as attack site

Thai Immigration website is reported as an attack site by Google and FireFox. Thaivisa has
several times tried to contact with the IT section of the Immigration Bureau, but to no avail.

BANGKOK: -- Internet access in Thailand is not always easy, and can be dangerous as well.
Last week the Bangkok post website was listed as an attack site by Google and Fire Fox. Recently the website of Thailand Immigration Bureau was found being reported as an "attack site".

Of their 1376 pages Google tested on the Thai Immigartion site over the past 90 days, 133 pages resulted in malicious software being downloaded and installed without user consent. The last time Google visited this site was on 2009-12-13, and the last time suspicious content was found on the site was on 2009-12-12.

Malicious software on the Thai Immigration website includes 49 exploits, 40 scripting exploits and 32 Trojans, according to Google and FireFox.

MICT blocking CNN, Facebook, Yahoo, Flickr for some users/ISP's

On another note, The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology is today blocking websites hosted in USA.

Example of blocked sites as of this morning: edition.cnn.com, facebook.com, finance.yahoo.com, flickr.com

MICT is redirecting the blocked traffic to their website http://mict.go.th, and instead showing a portrait of HM the King of Thailand together with well wishes for His Majesty's birthday.

Depending on the ISP some users do not face the reported problems. Discussion here: Internet forum branch

Using proxy servers and trying to circumvent government blocked websites is a criminal offense in Thailand.

On the other hand the only way I've been able to access tube8 for about 6 weeks is through a proxy. There does seem to be some blocking going on. I concur about Thaivisa though!!

More than 100 posts in an hour on Thaivisa with varying reports depending on provider should mean something is the matter here.

For achange I am not crying wolf here if you may think that is the case.

Thaivisa is NOT a reputable news site.

On my 2 DSL lines CNN is fine.

If google says the Thai Immigration / IT site is infected, then STAY AWAY.
Google does a great job of warning you when a site is suspect.
I've never gotten any warnings on the LBF

That being said, the Thais are blocking a lot of sites, in a pretty random manner. ThaiCrisis blog was blocked on TOT for a few days, but not by others.

Many sites get infected because their webmasters installed some illegal copies of software which the pirates had loaded with trojans.

The trojans load the ftp login info from the webmaster's PC and then the trojans either upload themselves to the site, adding some hidden iframes into the code, or they send the login data to other computers who then upload the crap.

Then thousands of other computers get infected via the iframes.

MB, AVG is not enough to protect your computer.

You must use a kind of "system shield" which monitors actions of programs in realtime and warn you about any suspicious activities, like:

explorer.exe want a connection to internet
sdfgsdfg.exe tries to copy itself to several locations on your computer
etc.


I use Avast! + Threatfire and I am fairly satisfied.

but when I will earn my living with that (i.e. near future), I will certainly have at least 3 PCs.

1- Secure Windows PC for Banking, Email & Office work
2- Gaming, p2p downloading, video ripping, audio conversion, etc.
3- Development PC, running either Linux or windows - currently I'm still dependent on some very handy windows-based apps for development, but that might change soon.

if it becomes infected, just wipe it and restore a clean backup of your VM

Here Here Mick. I've been using Mac's at home for 15 years and PC's at work for nearly as long, and I still love my Mac so much more than any PC I've ever met/used.

Try using a new iMac with dual or quad Intel coprocessors. It's perfect for all your banking, email and office needs (I use MS Office For Mac which is actually quite advanced over Office for PC!) and if you have any application that you cannot run in a native Mac version, you can also install Windows on a partitioned disc. Boot up into Windows, play your games or whatever, then close out and reboot as Macintosh OS.

I've never had an infection or security problem. Other than when someone broke in and stole my Mac (the month before my first LOS trip January 2008). But that's another story and a completely different sort of security issue.

Once you go Mac you'll never go back.
