  • Tuesdays Election Results

Now i am not starting this to inflame anyone. I aint waving a red flag in front of the bull. This was a real "off year" election. There werent too many big races up for grabs.

Republicans gained the most tonight i believe. Repubs won the Governors seat in Virginia AND New Jersey. NJ has been more and more Dem controlled over the years. I dont think the Reps have won that state since 1984. The New York Mayors race was much closer than anticipated as Bloomberg won a 3rd term. There was a special election in the 23rd Congressional District in New York State and it was controversial. The Dem ended up winning a tight race v the Consevative candidate after the Rep dropped out and endorsed the Dem!!! The winner didnt get a majority of the vote.

The voters are angry and I think there is trouble ahead for the Dems in 2010 as they are in the majority. Reflection on Obama?? Dont think so but he did campaign quite heavily for the Dems and they, mostly, came up short. I dont like the Dems and cannot stand its leadership, especially the Pelosi/Reid duo. In 2010 the good news might be the Dems lose seat, the bad news is they will be replaced by Repubs!! Hardly an endorsement forthe Repubs!!!

    BE CAREFUL OUT THERE!!!
    Be careful out there!

It looks that way, except most of these were special cases

In the NY Mayors race lots of people were angry at Bloomberg for changing the rules on term limits and allowing himself to run for a 3rd term when he shouldn't have been able to.

In New Jersey, Corzine is an ex-chief of Goldman Sachs - who wouldn't want to punish this guy !!!

In Virginia, it went back to republican. Not a big surprise.

Hard to read this as a republican mandate, and not as a lot of local results that happened to break republican.

Yeah, like your Republican leadership is anything to write home about either.

          Snick,
As to the NY Citys mayors race it was quite interesting as I was listening to local (NYCity) radio and he and Thompson were running neck and neck. It was shocking especially considering Thompson was nothing more than a machine Democrat Party hack of the worst kind. True about a backlash from Bloomy changing the rules about term limits. That was a disagrace and Bloomy wasnt alone in that dastardly deed. The turnout was so low because it looked as though Bloomys victory was a fait accompli. He almost lost..........The fact that the last 2 mayors of New York city were Republicans when the Dems outnumber Repubs about 9 to 1 in NYC tells you a lot about the Democratic Party in the city of New York. Its also partly a lasting legacy of the inept (and I am being kind here) Dinkins administration................

NYC has a history of electing liberal Repubs to multiple terms, LaGuardia, Lindsay, Guilianni, Bloomberg.

Lindsay almost didn't get reelected due to Queens being unplowed after a big snowstorm. Jimmy Breslin credits Lindsay getting pushed into a pic with the champion Mets and the ensuing good feeling as tilting the election to him.

Your perception skills need some honing. I'm not angry at all, nor was I when I replied to your previous post. But IF I were angry over anything, are you naive enough to believe living in Pattaya is a 100% cure for any such feelings all the time??

You singled out the Dems and their leadership, saying you couldn't stand them.
Does your excluding the Reps and their leadership mean you can stand them???  I think so!!!!! Sure you made a slight slap at the Repubs, but your obviously stronger disdain for the Dems is already well known.

I think that if the Dems had won most of the races, you would not have even started this thread. JMO.

              OK??

              Capisci ?????

So him saying that the Dems suck but the Repubs that will replace them aren't any better is somehow biased more strongly? I think you're reading and implying too much into this.

The NJ race surprised me a bit but VA not a bit. There will be some turnover in 2010, but not nearly as much as the reich wingers hope for. This is a year away and alot can happen in a year. A lot of things are starting to go right for the Obama administration and the more it does the less turnover there will be.

You want diversity........the city of Houston had 4 candidates for Mayor, an openly gay white woman, a rich black man, a rich white man, and an ordinary hispanic (mexican origin) man.

The runoff will be between the Gay woman and the rich black man with the gay woman leading in the first portion 30% to 25%

NJ race strictly about NJ issues, no matter what the talking heads blabbered on about , watched the PBS station for the results, the angst was visible, sure the anchors at some time were lined up for the Pepto Bismol

The only house seat that I'm aware was up was in NY state and democrat won it for the first time since the civil war.........

Don't start reserving seats for the 2012 inaugration yet.........

God PD, a 40 year old mag article, stunning, you do seem to have more than a bit of time on your hands,no?
What I do remember is breslin and mailer campaigned on all the "radical" things they would do in NYC, were ridiculed for them , then lo and behold quite a few of them were implemented by Lindsay and his successors

Would I have started the thread if the results have gone the ther way?? Probably not but not bcause of some angst but because the story just isnt as INTERESTING, is it?? The fact that I did start it eventhough as Smutts pointed out the 23rd CD in New York went Dem for the first time in over 100 years says something as well. As a staunch Dem, you shold be salivating over what happened in the 23rd CD in NY. You should also pray that the right wing of the party is embracing/propping up Palin.

Do I have as much disdain for the Repub leadership as I do the Dems?? Humm tough to quantify but just about. They showed that they could be just phony and hypocritical as their Washington counterparts.

No, I wouldnt expect living in Patts would cure 100% of anyones ills but that figure shold AT LEAST reach into the 90%s!!!!
