  • The UK - Wealth and misery!

Britain is the worst place in Europe to live despite offering the biggest salaries, a study reveals today.

High incomes in the UK are cancelled out by long working hours, poor annual leave, rising food and fuel bills and a lack of sunshine.

Researchers weighed up official data for ten countries, including France, Spain, Germany, Italy, Sweden and Poland.

It found Britons enjoy the highest aftertax household income of £35,730-a-year, more than £10,000 above the European average.

But most of it goes on keeping a 'roof over our heads, food on the table and our homes warm', according to the uswitch.com European Quality of Life Index.

After comparing 17 quality of life measures, the study ranked Britain at the bottom-with Ireland second from last. The best quality of life can be found in France and Spain.

Britons can expect to work three years longer - retiring at 62 years and 6 months - than the French, and die two years younger at 78.9.

Workers here get the least annual leave in Europe, with 28 days a year, compared with 41 in Spain. We also have to contend with a higher cost of living, paying more for fuel, food and transport.

British drivers pay the most for diesel --while only one other country has more expensive unleaded petrol.

Essential weekly groceries that cost £134.48 in the UK would be £124 on average in Europe --and £118.76 in France. Annual household energy comes in at £1,239, with Britons paying the third-highest electricity rates.

Ann Robinson of uSwitch.com, said: 'There is more to good living than money - and this report shows why so many Brits are giving up on the UK and heading to France and Spain.

'We earn substantially more than our European neighbours, but this level of income is needed just to keep a roof over our heads, food on the table and our homes warm.

'The recession could prove to be a turning point, forcing us to re-evaluate our way of life, get back to basics and to the things that really count.

'Consumers are already beginning to do this - the Government and its policymakers would do well to follow suit.'

It seems to the only country in the EU that adopts ALL the bullshit legislation issued from Brussels. The rest of Europe must be pissing themselves laughing. I couldn't believe the beurocracy and padding that has gone on whilst I have been away. Public sector had blossomed thousands of non-jobs.
I couldn't give a shit how long it is until you're next holiday- I live here

All the countries have to adopt it at some point.

The UK fucked up on the immigration part as they thought only a lorry load of ex polish miners would turn up to pick potatoes... instead of that we got most of Poland . Better sow your pockets up when Romania gets the nod

And if Turkey gets in... well goodbye Europe...

yep when Romania and Turkey join the shite will hit the fan, then the uk will be even more happy hunting ground for the gypo thieves ,cant tell em to leave then, they will have just as much right to stay here as you and me.
I dont give a flying shite what anybody here thinks.......EU is a very bad idea,a disaster which has no borders waiting to happen,in fact has allready begun.
the gobshites in power never seem to learn from history,as history has proved time and again that clear borders are needed between countries and cultures, mass intergration does not work......it ends in wars and social discord.
the uk is now a place where verybody can come and just dump all there shite!

the uk is such a small island just how the fuck is it supposed to cope with the demands that the EU and increasing amounts of immigration put upon it? with a fast decreasing workforce, decreasing tax revenues ageing population and increasing financial and legal demands from EU this is putting terrible burdens on its last remaining tax paying law abiding workers.

yes the uk is a shitehole,we know, the sad thing is it need not be this way.
the uk has been sold out and sold off
news today is now Gordon brown plans to sell off even more uk assets to bring in some cash to help plug the fuckin huge hole hes helped to dig for us all......................oh well Gordon...you sold our gold at all time low prices to plug a hole, whats the point in having anything left ,sell the lot..........have a car boot sale mate, raise a few pounds there mate, mayby pay for the queens caviar for one day,if you need any more just tap up the old favorite again.........the taxpayer........get in there quick tho Gordon as that particular cash cow is going out of business to ...................then we will all be at the car boot sale 6 am sunday morning......see you there Gordon(ill get you a burger if your a bit strapped for cash)

truth of the matter is,things are so screwed here now it dosnt matter who is in,as the only course now is higher taxes ,cutbacks, and yes more taxes, did i say taxes? oh well more taxes anyway,im sure some new ones will be invented.
as a matter of fact i do want labour out of power, and yes i do want to give Cameron a chance, many people believed Blairs bullshite(not me)when he was elected for his last term ,when he was clearly a liar/bullshitter.................im a believer in change............unlike the majority of the british public who it seems like the same old shite served up on em.

i wouldnt be so tiny minded as to think that some of the things which will needed to be done to get the country out of the shit it is now in are as a result of David cameron.......on the contrary its because of Blair and Brown &co that some things must change, its the typical dumb ass british public view and response to things like this, idiots allowed labour to carry on by giving them the vote..........those same idiots now want to blame the tories for the mess the countries in .....................a very british thing........."you can go ahead, yes do what you like,by all means yes i will just go along with it,i can trust you....cant i?"...."oh turned out shit has it?..well dont blame me,and i dont see why i should have to bear and consequences.....yes we want more houses...........but not near me!"

The only time I have felt truly proud of being British was during the Thatcher era.

After she lost the plot the place went to shit.

As for fox hunting - just another envy law from the fucking stupid poor people of that country who can't stand it if someone has a dollar more than they do. Fucking white trash cunts.

I hate them animal rights cunts. Am a big fan of coursing and dog racing and seen recently on the news some animal rights activist giving out about the Clonmel coursing festival. They want to see it banned, even though the hare doesnt even be harmed, on top of the fact that the festival is worth 60m euro to the local economy. The few days of the festival is probably the best fed time of a hares life. Animal rights activists should be dipped in ketchup and thrown in a cage with a hungry tiger.

As for misery in the UK. The Uk and Ireland have the highest suicide rates in the EU with N Ireland and Wales the highest. Those higher than EU average wages dont mean shit when we are been taxed left right and centre and over paying for everything from groceries, fuel, clothes, house prices and hookers.

I only found out recently that Chelsea Barracks was sold off for around 94 million. Well successive governments have been systematically destroying the Armed Forces so they don't really need the accomodation anyway do they!!!
