  • Who is your favorite movie director?

I know I am probably leaving out someone famous. There are more than 9 great directors. Most of these, except a couple, are still alive and working. So I guess it was mostly contemporary directors I was thinking of.

Hitchcock... and the rest are but dog shit by comparison although they have occasionally got it right.

      "Other".

      Me.
When I can have a casting of minimum 3, in a studio called "my bedroom".

Then, it would be Chaplin or Hitchcock.

Comedy - Woody Allen or Coen Brothers
          Drama - Almodovar
          Suspense - Hitcock or Kubrick
For sheer ballsy gung-ho entertainment - Scorsese or Tarantino
And for those darker pleasures - David Lynch

          Decisions..

          OK OK I voted Kubrick

I agree Sean. Also Unforgiven, Flags of our Fathers, Letters From Iwo Jima. Just only had ten options. Also Billy Bob Thornton directed a superb movie in Sling Blade. They are both more known for acting though.

Woody Allen - Pedro Almodovar - Jim Jarmusch ... in no particular order
there are also quite a few French and Chinese directors who did great films - and being somewhat of a patriot - Michael Haneke

My choices were not on the list.
If I had to pick a favorite director it would be Jim Jarmusch, for sure.
Then, also Werener Herzog and Pedro Almodóvar, "Gaspacho para todos!"
I also like Woody Allen and Terry Gilliam.

I like the Cohen Brothers, but I'm not sure I have an all time favorite.

Billy Wilder: Some Like it Hot
                              Double indemnity
                              Sunset Boulevard
                              Ace in the Hole
( Where he prophesied, in 1952, the circus that TV news would become.)
This was a photo finish over Kubrick.

Among current I'll have to go with Coens .......or maybe Tarantino or Danny Boyle.
