Armstrong has been tough in the mountains, digging deep and finding something extra rather than slipping back like many others. But the Schleck guys have been amazing and have now pushed Armstrong off the podium, but try as they may they can't budge Contador at all.

        OVERALL STANDINGS AFTER STAGE 17

        1. CONTADOR
        2. SCHLECK A +2:26
        3. SCHLECK F +3:25
        4. ARMSTRONG +3:55
        5. KLÖDEN +4:44

Armstrong is going to do well in the Time Trials today, should get him nicely back in contention.

Contador has proved to be the real champion. He has a comfortable lead and with the Ventoux still to come, nobody will challenge his positon.

Sorry Lance fans. Age does matter.

BTW Contador won in 2007 and not 2008.. and certainly this year also
              Sastre won last year (2008).

                  Latest news:
Some analysts compared performances between L.Armstrong (at his best) ) and Contador (this year). They used a lots of technical terms and figures but in brief Contador is 6-8% stronger. They also underlined Contador performances as an "unexplored zone" for a cyclist. And looking at Contador after each stage: "cool and fresh"...

Yesterdays stage was great spectacle. The climb to the top of the mont ventou is the most challenging in the Tour. It was only sad to see that contador had to defend Armstongs third position. Otherwise he could have easily won this stage too.
                      Today the last 'ceremonial' stage.

Contador wins the 2009 tour decisively and had more in the tank in the mountains, but didn't need it. Great job by Armstrong to gut out a podium spot. Maybe not finishing at the top it will help people see him as human instead of a drugged superman. Next year Armstrong can be even better after kicking the rust off this year with limited preparation and years away from the sport and now he is starting his own team built around him. But maybe the competition will also improve too. Andy Schleck looks tough and yet even next year he will still be in the youth classification.

                        FINAL STANDINGS:

                        1. CONTADOR
                        2. A. SCHLECK +4:11
                        3. ARMSTRONG +5:24
                        4. WIGGINS +6:01
                        5. F. SCHLECK +6:04

I do agree with you! Though imo there won't be much differences. Armstrong will be 39yo. His team will be one of the great attraction for 2010...But he won't win.
Anyway that's a good way to move into a new job...
